Well, the F-35 is certainly the best looking STOVL aircraft ever.

This model in the wind-tunnel looks awesome:

Nah. China has a more powerful weapon. It just has to launch a torpedo called a financial review of the Euro every week and Europe goes down. :diablo:

And China would go down with them. The Chinese economy has not “decoupled” in any way, shape, or form from the West. Without access to Western markets, and demand for Chinese goods in those markets, the Chinese economy will stagnate and then shrink.

Also, the relevance of currencies to geopolitical power has been exaggerated recently. The German currency went toast prior to WW2 – that didn’t stop Germany. :diablo:

BTW, with 50 F-35s the answer to the original question is clear.

The two governments would be far too intelligent to risk a war between two nuclear powers or to risk alienating any third parties in the tangled web of alliances and opponents.

France can eliminate the entire Israeli military, including its nuclear capacity, during the first minutes of combat – especially if France is willing to use its own nukes – however, even without nukes France could possibly succeed.

Unlike Israel’s other adversaries, France can track and destroy Israel’s subs at the beginning of hostilities, so there will be no second strike threat. Israel cannot do the same to France. Hence, Israeli survival would be – and is – based only on French restraint.

This is not new information to anyone who has studied military issues in South Africa or Israel. But, now we have clear substantiation.

So many Israel supporters have tried to deny Israel’s role in helping S Africa acquire nukes, and in assembling French-Israeli aircraft and equipment.

And it’s also great to have clear proof that Israel has nukes.

Serial Number of Torpedo Traced to N.Korea

Serial Number of Torpedo Traced to N.Korea

Investigators have found at the 11th hour found a desperately needed smoking gun linking North Korea to the sinking of the Navy corvette Cheonan, a government official claimed Tuesday. Investigators apparently discovered a propeller from the torpedo that likely sank the ship in relatively good condition in waters where it sank and the serial number inscribed on it is North Korean.

“U.S., Australian and other foreign experts who took part in the investigation agree that a North Korean torpedo caused the Cheonan to sink and that this is the smoking gun following various pieces of the torpedo and traces of gun powder that had been gathered so far,” the official said.

South Korea to officially blame North Korea

South Korea will formally blame North Korea on Thursday for launching a torpedo at one of its warships in March, causing an explosion that killed 46 sailors and heightened tensions in one of the world’s most perilous regions, U.S. and East Asian officials said.

This matter is closed. With the Democratic Obama Administration in office they are going to make sure this contract goes to the domestic company.

Americans need jobs. This is a foregone conclusion.

i think a low kiloton yield air burst over buenos aires should put a message across

If the Argies were really serious (which they probably aren’t) they would already have started negotiating prices with the North Koreans or someone else.

Within 24 hours of an alert, rapid reaction forces would start arriving from the UK, with Tornado’s and further Typhoons not far behind.

The idea is that those Brit aircraft will have nowhere to land by the time they arrive. If they land on Las Malvinas they will become Argentinian war booty.

No, it’s one of the most stupid suggestions I’ve seen here, akin to the “overwhelm the Falklands with 500 J-6 fighters bought secondhand from China” suggestion last year.

Ah yes, “Operation Cuito.” I’m glad to see it left such an impression. 😀

Some of you have far too much faith in new technology. The idea than four Eurofighters can defend Las Malvinas is, respectfully, crazy.

In that earlier post I showed that the J-6 certainly has the range for a one-way mission and, depending on loadout, could probably be configured to leave from and return to remote airfields in mainland Argentina.

The objective, of course, would be to neutralize the Eurofighters, disable the air defenses, thus allowing Argie troops to be flown in on civil or military transports. Then the Argies dig-in and hold the islands.

Your arguments lack coherence. Is this a war? If so, what the hell is the point of a single raid on an economic target? And where is the casus belli? Is it expected to help Argentina to gain control of the Falklands? If so, how?

Or is it a raid, with the pretence that it is not a war? That’s terrorism.

Note that Argentina is keenly interested in exploring for oil in its undisputed EEZ, offshore from its oil fields on land, & setting such a precedent would be very damaging indeed to its own interests.

The casus belli would be the theft of Argentinian resources.
