This is on BBC online news just now –
MH370 searchers hear signals: As it happened
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-26918398

Is it the break they have been hoping for……. Still a MYSTERY until further news develops.

Oops this is when databases come into their own.
Corelate this current 777 report if true to what AI was threatening Boeing with on Dreamliner delays.
Are AI out of real financial woes?
One guess as to who may be wooing AI.
Does Boeing care? Directly probably not, indirectly maybe.
In some quarters of the world there are unscrupulous businesses and even more unscrupulous governnments.

Boeing does not have to enter into speculation in public, but as everyone on his forum knows would have confidentially ensured MA had/have and continue to have Boeing’s recommended after sales support and maintenance documentation/training.

Given that (already posted on this thread) there are individuals attempting to take MA and Boeing on in lawsuits it would be unlikely that Boeing can go public on such a MYSTERY.

The recent problem is simply irresponsible and garrulous employees talking to even more irresponsible media, if as stated it affects only aircraft on the production line.

Unfortunately it doesn’t stop there though. The root of the problem is –

Any reputable organisation which Boeing has been for a long time enhances their production line and supply chain with as many quality checks as financially viable.

Some of these processes have obviously broken down and it is inevitable during one of the most prolonged economic recessions that I have experienced.

Suppliers are ‘cutting corners’ at every turn again spurrred on by attempts to save money during the same stated economic recession.

If it is purely media hype does that include the incorrectly reported injuries and picture of the escape slides deployed?

MYSTERY – It has simply vanished – and that so far is all that we can state apart from useless paranoid conspiracy theories that aren’t proven but being banded about..

Satellite imagery has not categorically identified any “aircraft debris”, they have simply identified large and smaller objects in the ocean. As stated by others on the forum what has been recovered as yet seems to be flotsam and jetsam (rubbish).

Containers/damaged containers, etc fall off ships, and as already stated by others of the forum the oceans are the garbage dumps of convenience (sad but true).

We wait patiently, but as yet no positive debris from the aircraft has been identified or picked up.

    Hi Sandy

Touche. Even better when you take out the word “legal” in your post #338.

The UK is following closely behind with all the lucrative overseas fees paid by rich American kids to prestigious business schools in UK.
Following graduating with their MBAs and staying here to fuel the legal system in the UK and satisfy their own personal greed at the expense of UK businesses. e.g. >£45,000.00 per year in some schools like LBS

“Not too close” as Sandy BMused55 has already said in Post #175

I haven’t read the whole thread, so I might be repeating something.

I wonder how close a hijacked airliner could get to Diego Garcia.

Definitely “not too close” as Sandy BMused55 has already said in post #175

If any place would have seen this coming on their radar (irrespective of the Transponder being switched off) would have been DG.

There would have been the equivalent of the UK’s QRA interception long before it got even close. Likely two fighters as wingmen and one aloft and one possibly underneath taking the risk of collison (any serviceman takes that risk to defend their nation) would have steered it away or requested authority from the USDOD/Pentagon to shoot it down/shoot out it’s engines.

Tough if you cannot handle the “shoot it down/shoot out it’s engines” but that is how strategic DG is to all of us in the Democratic world.

Stop worrying about DG they can look after themselves.

I am not even going to speculate at this stage as to who, why or when; or if this was a deliberate human act including collaboration (e.g. to get into the secure cockpit door) OR whether a fantastic, modern and very safe aircraft simply disintegrated.

What I shall say is –
    – It should not be possible to ever switch off a modern civil aircraft transponder (military aircraft must be obviously excluded for operations and stealth reasons) – the transponder must continue operating like the FDR and CVR until flight ceases completely.
    – If you look at what I posted on this forum after AF447 – about real time, vital raw data transmissions being kept by airlines and manufacturers for ever (research and legal reasons) – It would supplement completely any lost for ever FDR and CVRs. Again very possible with all the technology that has been to hand for over 10 years.

Given the two aspects above the powers that require to could have by now located the missing aircraft without any difficulty whether it was on tera firma on under the ocean.

My hopes and prayers are with all the genuine pax on the flight that has been lost and their loved ones who wait for answers which aren’t there to give at present.

    We wait patiently.

News Reporters being reporters or maybe they should be porters yet in fairness

In the original article with which this thread was started by Amiga500

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-25068222

“……..He said GE and Boeing were hoping to eliminate the problem by modifying the engine control system software…….”

Shared responsibility for resolving the issue but the “Badge” is carried for the entire aircraft by Boeing – who IMO are strong enough to “weather” this problem which will not be the last- but that will certainly not stop the 787 being a desirable aircraft for many years to come.

Yep, that just about sums it up. Whomever designed the building leaving all those horizontal areas exposed no doubt either disregarded the build up of dust completely, or assumed the building owner woud put a suitable cleaning procedure and schedule in place to keep the surfaces clean.

Makes you feel quite queasy when you realise much of the dust is probably dead skin-cells from all the passengers who have passed through the terminal, so simply blowing it off the ledges onto the floor, and/or any other surfaces below, may not seem a desirable solution – probably need to vacuum and damp-wipe it all away, and then repeat the process every three or six months to prevent it building up again.

Perhaps all those “trendy” exposed beams/surfaces suddenly seem a little less attractive when you see what is collecting on top of them…:(

Architects, Engineers and Maintenence should all be singing from the same ‘Hymn Sheet’ when new structures are put up that the public have to use for many years to come.

Maintenence is a forgotten allocation on most budgets – sad but true

I sell the deterrent devices as well as the traps:cool:

I must admit when I first had seen the photos I thought it was rather dirty area.

Why not send BAA a link to this thread, see what happens (if anything).

    Hi Mr Merry,

Obviously although the place is awash with the most sophisticated electronic equipment they haven’t thought of an independent mains electricity loop all over to carry any vermin deterrent devices.

Ofcourse there must be managers in abundance at both BAA (owner) and BA (the tenant/lessee) of T5 who are all paid handsomely to ensure the maintenence is up to standard. 😀
    Ahem! what standard/standards?????

What beats me is that so many passengers must see the dirt/dust, vermin and smell the obnoxious toilet next to M&S at Arrivals. What are their impressions I wonder?

There are so many simple ways to reduce the dust/dirt and prevent vermin in T5

The ways are simple to prevent dust/dirt within the terminal especially where it is in the visible areas of passengers/staff.

The cross beams (metal and roof support structures) can regularly be blown free of dust (now that years of dust/dirt have settled on these structures they will obviously have to be wiped clean) using elevating platforms. (They have many elevating platforms in use within the terminal already)

The stains caused by the water leaks from the roof if un preventable can be frequently cleaned. Instead they have been left for years to create permanent large stains (a harder task now obviously).

The dust/dirt on the secure walkways can be cleaned periodically by Amey/OCS with access to the secure walkways being provided by someone having authority to open the doors and ensuring they are closed after the cleaning operation.

Thanks Mr Merry for your comment – as I have myself used electronic mice deterrent devices in places where I have lived and although they weren’t electronic moustraps, they created a special ‘noise’ within the electrical circuitry of the house that only mice/rats supposedly can hear (which prevented the mice/rats coming into the areas covered by the devices within the wiring circuit).

Why then between BAA and BA can these simple housekeeping and maintenenece measures be NOT put in place in their flagship terminal at LHR?
