My holiday reading for my aborted holiday to the Costa-del-Manchester-Airport was “Blitz” by MJ Gaskin.
I put down the book cover-side up on the table next to me when the waiter brought our drinks……… and it wasn’t until he spoke I realised he was German :o:o don’t mention the war 😮

I swore at the cat today when I found out that trying to do an emergency pre-holiday exercise DVD in the company of bad-tempered cat leads to pain 😡

I wrote to Gordon Brown yesterday to complain that nothing had been done for the people really affected by the grounding of aircraft.
I told him to forget about all those whinging holidaymakers who are getting an extra week in the sun, (hotel and food paid for), and concentrate on us, the humble British Plane Spotter.
Looks like he took heed. 😀
I’m a whinging holidaymaker (although I’m trying to fly out, not in!!) and a spotter, does that make me doubly important? 😀
No pics of the control tower? It’s the oldest working control tower in the world!
I like Barton, often head over there after a day at Ringway 😀
Very nice DHL 767,how many DHL a/c are parked at EMA during a typical afternoon?
I’m not a regular, but I think there’s usually 3 🙂
A bit grainy..otherwise nice shots
I know…… tis because I’m using the digital zoom. I’m trying to sell my body for a 45-200mm lens, only my body doesn’t seem to be worth that much 🙁
Get used to it Steve, I have some non-Jumbo pics from EMA to post as soon as I can be bothered 😀
Keef – let me know if/when you’re going to MAN – I may well tag along 😀
Squeaky liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiike 😀
I’m local to BHX, where did you take that from?
Excellent photographs but I was surprised to see so many Apaches. I thought they were all in foreign parts. It may have been on here before but could I recommend “Think like a bird” by Alex Kimbell. It’s an excellent read by the author who joined the AAC, learnt on Auster AOP9s and then did a tour in the Yemen flying Beavers. Absolutely hair-raising and beautifully written.
There were 11 Apaches there (that we saw) – 5 in the hangar and 6 out doing circuits.
The 6 doing circuits were training a/c, and the “inmates” in the hangar were receiving modifications for Afghanistan, including amongst other things, the fitting of additional fuel tanks.
Apparently, the Taliban are well aware that an Apache can only fly for 2.5 hours, so they watch for them them to take off from Kandahar, hide for 2.5 hours and then, when the Apache heads for home, spring out and attack our boys.
Only, now they have extra fuel tanks and can turn back round and wipe them out 😀
Ok, ok as you asked nicely you can have a few more 😀
