I never get the good looking flight attendants… I think it’s a ploy by my girlfriend!!
I’m useless at mental arithmetic… takes me a while to do it! In the words of my A-level maths teacher… “Do the simple stuff on your calculator… let your brain do the difficult stuff”.
It’s one of those things which is so unlikely that very few people take it into consideration. There is a minute chance of a double engine failure on a twin jet, but with todays technology, and the amount of testing done on engines before they take to the skies, it’s not one of those things that pilots get worried about.
I went to a lecture done by a RR employee… the Trent engine has been tested against birdstrikes with up to 8lb birds, it’s had so much water sprayed through it that they had to end the test, not because the engine couldn’t take any more water, but because RR didn’t have the facility to spray more water into the engine at a higher rate, and just for fun… the RR people blew a fan blade off it’s mounting at the equivalent of an hour into the flight, and then ran the engine, vibrating, for the rest of the flight durtion… around 8 hours I think to simulate the pilot not bothering to turn back to base!
So, the engines can take considerable punishment… but there is a chance of fuel contamination…. or… the aircraft flying through volcanic ash for example… and we can route aircraft around volcanic ash… anyone know how difficult it is to contaminate fuel???

Generally speaking, the best fish and chips in the UK are to be found in Yorkshire! Had some dodgy experiences with non Yorkshire fish…. Like the chippy fryingfish with the head still on… strange!

Mine is the Polish Air Force Insignia… because my late grandfather was Polish.

At low level there is much more turbulence and the aircraft will get bounced around a lot, this just isn’t going to do much good for an aircraft which has been designed to cruise up at around 35000ft. It wouldn’t be worthwhile to buy a 747 which was intended to be scrapped after a short service life due to the rigours of low level flying. I’d say buy the Beriev instead, if not… then how about a C-130?
Speaking of firefighting C-130’s…. does anyone know what caused the wings to break off that C-130 waterbomber last year?
Got into aircraft when I was 9, probably due to me living under the LBA flightpath.
My favourite quote is:
“Rik: Vyvyan where did you get that Howitzer from???
Vyvyan: Found it!”

No probs… take a rivet gun instead… riveting is much more theraputic too! 🙂
There was a guy who used to operate a small single engine aircraft off the beach at Southport, that’s the only time of aircraft using beaches that I’ve heard of recently.
