Kamov Ka-22 Vintokryl, NATO code name “Hoop”. It set several convertiplane records… But never made it beyond the prototype stage.

    RE: AN 225 FLYING AGAIN

Great to hear the news!! I’m a bit of an An-225 fan!! Would you say there is a market for such an aircraft? As the next step up from the An-124? I’d like to see it happen, but, personally I think the An-124 is going to be the biggest aircraft anyone will ever need.

    RE: VC 10 and Il-62

Personally I think the only reason the Il-62 is still providing long-haul service is because the airlines cannot afford to replace them. Airlines like LOT have already replaced the Il-62 with the 767, and more will follow.

Have other Eastern bloc nations retired the type? I didn’t see the type mentioned in CSA’s fleet list so they will have gone the same way as LOT.

    RE: HETHROW RUNWAY THREE

Is LHR allowed to take a few landings outside those hours?… Something around 10?? But these aircraft cannot be anything like the large 747 class aircraft.

The aircraft noise is only a problem with a minority of people though. If you did a survey around LHR, I would say that most people would say they’d got used to the noise.

    RE: Best American Fighter?

Did the P-38’s poor performance have anything to do with the aircraft not being fitted with turbo-chargers. I remember the RAF testing a P-38 which performed badly because US policy didn’t supply turbo-charged aircraft under Lend-Lease. That was probably before the tests you talk of though.

P-51D Mustang. Why? Well, it’s fast, agile, it’s got the punch, it’s got the range. It’s just great!!! All IMHO of course!!

    RE: Airline food

I travelled with Air Tours this summer… they made us buy the cans… that price quoted above sounds familiar. They give out Tea, Coffee, and orange squash with your meal. I can’t remember the food I got… can’t have been that bad then!!!!
