    random Burtonwood comment

Until I’ dvisited the UK, I’d never ever known of Burtonwood… then the day arrived and, having flown into Manchester, the quiet (subdued, lagged, in dire ned of a pint or two) early morning car ride to Southport was pleasantly ( 😉 ) interrupted by me spotting and nattering on about some structures which appeared ‘appropriately dated’. To this day, it’s still the only WWII UK airfield that I know I’ve seen. (I sincerely apologize if If Woodvale counts as a former WWII site and anyone feels particularly offended at my exclusion thereof.)

very good news for Raytheon and Morocco… too bad its still a hideous piece of equipment… blasphemizing the PC-9 like that – shame!… (just my opinion)

Not a full album/disk, but an old friend from college just emailed me a single from Buck Cherry (Crazy Bee-atch [sic]) …. can’t stop playing it (let alone loud-enough!) – takes me back… anyone remember ‘Lit up’??

right side of the brain for me… although when seeing that ‘dancer’ in peripheral vision, she did seem to move anti-clockwise

    simplest?

I think the simplest would be to either add a fourth numeral (N) and start at AANNN, or add a third ‘alpha’ and stick to 3 numerals (AAANNN). Then again, flipping the alpha and numeral isn’t that far fetched, its exactly what happened here in Ontario with our automotive license plates (from AAA*NNN to NNN*AAA and now AAAA*NNN) so the same is feasible for aircraft. (the asterix here represents the lovely ‘Queen’s Crown’ which adorns our plates – either between the alphas and numerals or as a decal in the corner on ‘vanity’ plates)… but then I digress. Besides, why worry – just as long as there are still aircraft purchased and flown, how the MOD registers them is of minor consequence.

Lets see… Christmas dinner – which has no real meaning in this family – generally gets shuffled around the calendar. Way back when… we always sat down to dinner on the 25th – recently it has become the 26th and this year will be the 24th – with the whole fam-damily in the house all day. I will be found with my brother-in-law out on the deck with a cold beer and a pack of smokes, dodging snow-flakes and avoiding the rest of the clan – a highly disfunctional group of descendant Scots and Welsh. I’ll probably be surly and start an argument when the religious sibling wants to pray… short of leaving the country, I can’t avoid this occasion.

Dinner will consist of turkey and ham, herbed whipped potatoes, turnip (Swede), a very nice sweet potato concoction, baked squash, Brussels sprouts and a light cabbage slaw. My mother will insist on bringing a tourtiere because ‘its a family tradition’ – even though there isn’t a single French-Canadian in the entire family tree. And then a freshly baked apple pie for dessert with tea and or coffee – or more beer/wine/spirit of choice… ahhh aren’t the holidays wonderful?

I recall seeing an article on the web … perhaps Cybermodeler or Hyperscale… in which the modeler produced a wonderful rendition of the Baracuda with wings folded – scratch built the entire fold area – all in 1/72… must see if I can find that article again.

Edit… found it… IPMS Stockholm… http://ipmsstockholm.org/magazine/2005/10/stuff_eng_benshahar_barracuda.htm oh, and it was 1/48… but still sure I’ve seen it done in 1/72

Never been much of a fan of collecting die-cast – but here is what I do have – so I guess they are my favourites…

    Dinky Toys Gloster Javelin
    Dyna Flights Supersabre F-100C

Both worn, weary and abused – rescued from the bin to bide their time on my bookshelf

    Wow!

I’m in awe… I’ve nothing of any major significance nor size for that matter… minor trinkets really – my uncle’s WWII RCAF survival and/or grooming mirror with blue leather slip-case, a set of his wings and a couple war-time aircraft recognition publications, as well as a MiG-21 armament panel and a cine-camera (16mm I believe) purportedly from a MiG-17. Space constrains aside, some day I’d like to acquire something substantial – for no sentimental reason whatsoever.

Well, owing to a distinct lack of the desired ‘naughty pleasures’ (female of the species) in my general vicinity… I have to make do with freshly baked chocolate-chip cookies… yep, I bake ’em and then eat the entire batch… that was last night while ‘The Hunt For Red October’ was on the tube. Amazing how many crumbs can fly when you say ‘… verify range to target… one ping only’. I can’t help it – I had the night off and the house was empty – and it sure beats the back-up plan… plastic tub of Betty Crocker ready to spread cake frosting…. mmm…
