    samples

My last ‘real’ painting – still incomplete (gouache and watercolour) – sorry cruddy photo. I’ve since switched over to profiles – all original line-work (Adobe Illustrator – the only Photoshop is the background image). More samples on my site (albeit smaller) and more yet to be uploaded.

Um, pardon my ignorance, but (it has been a few years since I’ve been in the area – the ex-wife’s family was in Ainsdale)…. wouldn’t Woodvale be a more appropriate ‘base’ for the Southport show? Or has it been completely shut down and dug up… last I saw, Liverpool UAS was still using it and there was still a red-tailed Phantom out front.

What heppened to “this part is guaranteed to work for a kazillion hours?”. Starting from that assumption those logisticians planed for spares shopping. Maybe this is happening to the Poles. They were told that a certain part will work a certain amount of hours…and yet…it failed for some reason.

We’ve all got to remember that these purchases are made by politicians (who in reality really do know nothing about anything)… regardless of the advice or recommendations of the ‘knowledgeable’ people, it all comes down to a matter of ‘we’re purchasing 27 of these, so why do we need to purchase more than 27 of any particular part’. No blame on the US or USAF or anyone else other than those who signed the contract.

    aka ‘Strubby’??

Found these 3 pics about a year ago (the original source website no longer works) That site had named the team ‘Strubby’ circa 1962. WL181 is the lead aircraft in the first pic.

From what I recall from the original web site, (IIRC it was a personal site for a fellow who had flown with the team)… the aircraft were never standardized and usually flew in what ever colour happened to be on them… i.e. one in camo/aluminum, 1 alumunim with day-glow panels and 1 aluminum with day-glo strips…

I had started some preliminary profiles based on the info I had found, and attached are roughs that represent the 3 aircraft of the Team in 1962.

The USAF’s largest celebration is Aviation Nation
    http://aviationnation.org/an2007.html

Oldest air force?… from inception or independence?… France’s AF dates back to 1909 (inception) but only 1933 as an independent service. US Military aviation (balloons) does date back to the Aeronautical Division of the US Signal Corps in 1907.

Pilatus PC-7 stopping by to Iqaluit, NU, CANADA. Swiss Air Force??

Nope, sorry Fulcrum, just another US civie – but appears to be ferrying back to Europe. (The aircraft IS for sale – and if memory doesn’t deceive me, this aircraft was also one of Pilatus’ demonstrators early in its life)

Departed Boise at 1800 hrs on Saturday, via Regina and Churchill to Iqaluit.
Just found this cool software/site – with a Live Flight Tracker… still haven’t checked how much coverage it has, but do far it looks pretty cool…

Does anybody have information about this Dauphin 2 from Congo-Brazzaville? They apparently have only one. The picture is rather murky, and if anyone has further details about the color scheme and the fuselage serial number, I would really appreciate it.

Judging by the top of the fin… the three colours in the scheme would appear to be (top to bottom) dark blue, deep red and light blue… (or belly up)

Apologies for the lack of a prop… but

And yes, I’ve posted this one elsewhere in the forums before. To me a gorgeous beastie… Vigilante in a mini-putt (counts as a playgound doesn’t it?) at Subic Bay, Philippines (just a stone’s throw from the old O-Club) I shot this one in 2000. I think she’s still there – http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=14.788031,120.279275&spn=0.001732,0.003519&t=k&z=18&om=1

I just don’t know her BuNo or even when she got placed.

a little digging through the plastic boxes turned this up…

From Scale Aircraft Modelling Vol.6, No.2 (November 1983)
(first SAM issue I ever bought – and it included a 1/72 decal sheet for an Argentine example as well as an Egyptian)
Aircraft in Detail article by Bill and Sue Bushell
    ‘Post-War Lancasters’

“Egypt was the next country to express and interest in the type and placed an order for nine refurbished examples, again Mark Is. The aircraft again came from Langar but this time were overhauled at Bracebridge Heath under Works Order 1054 and were standard B.Is except for the radar and that there were no guns fitted, though the turrets remained. Following the completion of test flying as G-11-60 to G-11-68, they were ferried to the Royal Egyptian Air Force as 1801 to 1809 (c/ns 1510 to 1518) during the second half of 1950.

Once they arrived at Almaza, where they were to be based, they were more or less ignored and flown very infrequently. Due to a shortage of spares they sat out in the sand and their eventual fate is unknown, though they are believed to have still been in existance during the Suez campaign of 1956.

Egyptian Lancasters were painted in a similar scheme to that used by the RAF, but with light or medium grey upper surfaces. Serials appeared under both wings in arabic and also on the fuselage sides.”

Nothing more fancy than a standard tail position light… (not sure where it was or why it wasn’t on earlier birds)

Here’s an excerpt from the FAA’s guidelines on position lights – you can be certain that the CAA’s may others’ guidelines are almost identical. (my bold)

“(a) General. Each part of each position light system must meet the applicable requirements of this section and each system as a whole must meet the requirements of Secs. 23.1387 through 23.1397.
[(b) Left and right position lights. Left and right position lights must consist of a red and a green light spaced laterally as far apart as practicable and installed on the airplane such that, with the airplane in the normal flying position, the red light is on the left side and the green light is on the right side.
    (c) Rear position light. The rear position light must be a white light mounted as far aft as practicable on the tail or on each wing tip.
    (d) Light covers and color filters. Each light cover or color filter must be at least flame resistant and may not change color or shape or lose any appreciable light transmission during normal use.”

and a few little shots of taillights… Typhoon, F-18 (its the topmost of the 3 fairings) and the venerable P-51.

Bolivia have 2 or 3 more T-33s upgraded. Bolivia received 18 T-33s, these being ex-Adla T-33SF variants substantially identical with those received from Canada. The picture bellow is on the way to Bolivia.

    Saludos!

It is my understanding that Bolivia received their T-33s in two batches – the first 15 in 1973 (former Canadian Forces aircraft) and the second batch (18) during the 1980s from France (also Canadair products). Most recently, there were to have been 18 upgraded (perhaps the Adl’A examples) by Kelowna Flight Craft in Kelowna, BC.
