‘India will set up star wars command’

NEW DELHI: India is planning to set up a strategic aerospace command to prepare for star wars and use space for network-centric warfare.

Talking to reporters, Indian Air Force (IAF) chief SP Tyagi said an aerospace command would be set up to lay the groundwork for developing capability to counter space weapons. He said such a command for futuristic warfare could be developed with the help of the country’s indigenous space agency.

On whether India had developed a nuclear strike capability, Tyagi said the country believed in “no first use nuclear doctrine” and that IAF was well prepared to retaliate swiftly in case of a nuclear attack. Tyagi said that India was awaiting reply from the US F-16 maker Lockheed-Martin, one of the four major fighter aircraft manufacturers it had approached for buying 126 multi-role combat aircraft. “We have requested information from Lockheed-Martin, he said.

The Bush administration had authorised Lockheed-Martin to compete for the IAF orders, Tyagi said. India is also looking into the Swedish Gripen, the French Mirage and the Russian MiGs. On the China-Pakistan venture to build Super 7 fighter aircraft, the Indian air chief said there was no cause for alarm because India had taken suitable measures to counter it.

Air Chief eyes aerospace command for future wars

NEW DELHI, APRIL 26: Air Chief Marshal S.P. Tyagi today said his force has suggested to the Government the setting up of a strategic aerospace command to prepare for future wars in space.

With several countries beginning to think of using space to park stand-off weapon systems, Tyagi said, it is time India started laying the groundwork to develop capability to degrade space weapons and this is where the need for an aerospace command arises.

He added that such a command has to be developed with the help and guidance of the country’s own space agency, ISRO.

“Defense News”: Israel, India agree to develop 3 new UAVs

“Defense News”: Israel is supplying all of India’s needs for unmanned aerial vehicles.

    Ran Dagoni, Washington 1 Mar 05 14:10

Israel and India have signed an agreement to develop three models of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), to be produced in India, “Defense News” reports in its latest issue. Senior officials from the Israel and Indian Ministries of Defense signed the agreement during the Aero India 2005 exhibition on February 9-13.
Under the agreement, Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) teams will assist the Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), India’s leading UAV developer, in developing new models.

IAI president and CEO Moshe Keret said that UAVs were an important element in cooperation between Israel and India, and that IAI would implement defense R&D plans, to the benefit of both countries.

”Defense News” notes that at this stage, Israel is supplying all of India’s requests for UAVs. The agreement to develop three UAVs is expected to perpetuate this situation for at least the near future.

LMAO! Where did you get that number from? No way will it carry 34 fixed wing aircraft. Although a carrier its size should be able to. But that is the price IN pays for converting a cruiser into a fixed wing STOBAR carrier.
A more realistic (and very very optimistic) number would be 24 aircraft given the limitations of its deck and hangar space. Although I do not see more than 18 Migs onboard. These plus 2 E2Cs and 4 helos would look good.
There is no Rafale coming and neither is LCA. LCA will be complemented to ADS carriers (which BTW should be able to accomodate 32-36 aircraft)

    LMAO! Read the following…… 😀 😎

The Gorshkov will have a maximum speed of 30 knots and an operational range of 13,800 nautical miles (about 26,000 km) at 18 knots. It will have a ski-jump angled at 14.3 degrees, about two degrees steeper than the Viraat’s. The Gorshkov will carry a complement of 24 MiG-29K and six Ka-31 helicopters. A maximum of 34 aircraft can apparently be operated.

New elite sophisticated Indian Army command with Satellite feed; nuclear loaded stealth supersonic Indo-Russian Brahmos missiles will take control of Indo Pak border 😀 😀

    Sudhir Chadda, Special Correspondent

    February 05, 2005

Indian army chief J.J. Singh said on Feb. 4, 2005, a new army command will be mobilized in the next three months to defend India’s western borders with Pakistan. In addition to using satellite equipment, Singh said the 10 battalions will be equipped for with conventional and nuclear missiles, including the Indo-Russian surface-to-surface Brahmos cruise missile.

The new command and control structure will be based on the stealth supersonic Brahmos missile with integrated control through satellite feeds.
The supersonic missile — which derives its name from the Brahmaputra and Moscow rivers in both countries – has a range of almost 300 km and is designed for use with land, sea and aerial platforms.

Its unmatchable speed is its high point, making it invincible. The supersonic speed imparts it a greater strike-power as well. Possessing stealth characteristics, the 6.9-meter cruise missile weighing three tons has a range of 280 km. Its another outstanding feature is that it is highly accurate and can be guided to its target mainly with the help of an onboard computer. This has been established by the test-flight. The computer and the guidance system have been designed by India whereas Russia has provided the propulsion system.

The satellite feed, Brahmos and other cruise missile cluster will provide a virtual cloud cover through no Pakistani missile, planes or any other devices will be able to move into Indian territory.

The new command will be completely computer controlled and India’s superior algorithmic capabilities will make Pakistan’s all offensive initiative useless.

Indian assumes Pakistan will obtain F16s from America and will use the same in next several years against India. The new command will make these F16s obsolete for attempting any Pakistani adventure against India’s line of Control.

Who knows? We are not even sure how many Migs it can carry.

The Gorshkov will carry 34 fighters though India initially ordered 16 Mig-29K, other aircrafts could be Naval LCA or even Rafale for high-accuracy ground strike or nuclear strike deterrence.

I think Gorshkov could carry atleast 2 AWACS (E2C) along with 32 fighters. It will increase Gorshkov’s efficiency two times as a force multiplier and helping to strike at long distances from the enemy fleets.

Tests may not include Cruise missile tests

Keeping in view the current spending on defense, it seems highly unlikely that the country would consider cruise missiles for its defense. Pakistan has a defense budget of $3.2 billion for the year 2004-05. Most of the amount from $3.2 billion is being spent over Air Force. The Air Force has recently ordered 7 Erieye AWACS radars from Sweden to neutralize the imbalance of power in the region.

The webmaster of that forum saying……..

Recently a “news report” appeared on pakdef.info website. A self declared authority on Pakistani defence issues. It sighted forecast international as a source of the report that PAF was buying 44 rafales from France. DefenceTalk.com went out to confirm if such reports were actually published at forecast international. Phone calls were made to france office and US offices of forecast international, emails were sent and we were told that forecast international NEVER published such reports. Please check this thread for more info:

Later, we received this email from editor of the forecast international:

“Fieldmarshal” posted an item September 8 in the Military Aviation Forum of Defencetalk.com that prompted the following response:

Forecast International is aware of various articles appearing in Internet sites regarding the possible transfer of Rafale fighter aircraft to Pakistan. These articles erroneously cite Forecast International as the source of this information. Forecast International categorically denies being the source of any information contained within these articles.

Pakdef people need to stop quoting dependable and prestigious sources to make points with the pakistani defence community. It does not serve them right nor does it server Defence communities in general. We need to report the truth and confirm that its actually published before reporting it.

DefenceTalk.com will go out of its way to confirm news reports which it feels are baseless and untrue. Report truth, report confirmed reports so defence and military communities have something solid to talk about and discuss.

Making up false stories and false reports and claiming its from a respected national source is shameful and defencetalk.com demands apology from Pakdef for releasing such erroneous and inaccurate report which has hurt defence communities in general.

    Thank You,

    Admin
    DefenceTalk.com

Pakobserver.net also picked up this story from Pakdef.info and I just called their Pakistan office and they said they don’t have confirmation of such news and that they apparently picked it up from pakdef.

Yes, we are not MUNNA but US invited India to join JSF, missile defence programme also want to cooperate in space science, nuclear technology. But somehow US not selling even old second-hand F-16 to some MNNA countries. Those countries are begging door to door for weapons e.g. USA, France, Russia, Sweden….. 😉

    N.B. I didnt mentioned Pakistan. 😀
