Apparently Clarkson “reported” himself due to hostility from the rest of the crew, got in with his excuses first, personally I think the guy is just a car themed comedy act and would be very disappointed if he couldn’t be replaced by any of a couple of hundred folks out there.

Strikes me this comes about when someone is daft enough to believe their own publicity, I for one am totally sick of the present culture of talent free celebrities, most of who are famous for being famous, Clarkson is not alone by any means.

What really gets me, Sir Terry Pratchett has just left us, a man who had more humour, intelligence and creativity in his little finger than the likes of Clarkson will ever have, not a flicker on here.

I watch Top Gear at times, certainly not essential viewing, I regard it as slightly slapstick comedy with a car theme, personally I find Clarkson to be clumsy and unthinking rather than offensive, he is regarded by many as a champion of anti-political correctness.

However, IF the reports are correct, it would appear that your straight talking man has thrown a hissy fit, spat the dummy because poor lamb, din-dins wasn’t available on time, IF he has gone on to punch someone then there is no place for him, he has to go.

Come on if any one was assaulted in the workplace, particularly over such a trivial matter, the attackers feet would not touch on the way out.

It’ll also be six-to-one; not the best circumstances to defend your record!

Considering that on this forum, Miiliband has a rating lower than Useless Eustace yet Cameron will not under any circumstances countenance a one to one public debate with him, surely if Milliband is as hopeless as the Southern County types seem to think, then Cameron should relish the opportunity, seems strangely reluctant, can’t think why.

OK, I’ve got my tin hat ready, but I think Cameron’s running scared, spitting his dummy just because others don’t wish to play by his rules, first sign of a bully.

Not my cats clearly, this cat found it’s way into St Petersburgh zoo and found a new buddy, the staff let the cat stay as both animals were happy with each other.

Something of a hair splitting there Edgar. The survey was 1941 and the comment was in regards of people in the “northernmost” counties of England which would exclude most of those cities.

How far North in England do you want to go?

, whereas in the northernmost countries of England where there was virtually no bombing,

I would love you to have had this conversation with my Dad, he was a fireman during the war, spent more time in Liverpool than he ever wanted to talk about, my mum told of the times when he made it home for a few hours sleep, then back into Liverpool trying to douse all the flames before the bombers came back at night, because they knew that any sign of a fire was a target for the Luftwaffe, plus of course the docks were a pretty dangerous place to be at times, look up SS Malakand for some ideas.

I am amazed at this discussion of blame and counter blame, of weighing one action against another, simple facts, the only good part in any war is the end of hostilities, Dresden was hit very hard indeed, but the raid was in response to a Russian call for assistance, Dresden was a major transport hub and troops were being moved through to the Eastern Front, Dresden also housed a large number of factories all producing war material, all this makes it a likely target.

Unfortunately for Dresden, it’s heavy anti-aircraft guns had been moved to the Eastern Front, the fighter cover allocated was not in the vicinity and on the night of the first raid particularly, didn’t leave the ground until much too late because of the then new art of radar jamming, daylight raids were strongly escorted by RAF and USAF Mustangs, the result being that the bomber formations, bombed largely uninterrupted with the resulting devastation that we are now aware of, but this question of should the raids have gone ahead is truly a fallacy, who knew just how and when the war would finally end? I would doubt very much indeed that anyone ordered the raids in order to kill as many civilians as possible before the war ended.

Let’s face it how about the use of the atom bombs on Japan?, I would imagine that the civilian death toll was horrendous, but like it or not it brought an end to the war.

Remember we can’t change yesterday, we can only hopefully learn and not make the same mistakes tomorrow, although I wouldn’t hold my breath on that one.
