But I wonder what the net gain is for them and others. Increased donations less advertising costs = just how much I wonder…….
Plus how many regular donators get tired of the barrage of begging material and stop donating?
For many years I had a quarterly DD to a charity of my choice, then suddenly things stepped up, I was inundated with, raffle tickets, “opportunities” to purchase assorted bits of useless merchandise, extra appeals at every opportunity holidays etc, all from the same charity which I already supported.
Then I discovered that this organisation had enlisted the “help” of one of these so called promotional companies, I don’t know how successful they were over all, but they lost my regular contribution. I don’t believe that many of these companies understand “over kill”.

I think most of us know it hasn’t been your best year, but remember you’re still around and still you, have the best Christmas you can and best wishes for the bright shiny untouched year to come.
Good luck Gil
Public and political opinion is not restricted to this forum, I would be amazed if the BBC was accused of right wing prejudice on this forum, however look around a little there are plenty of forums who are rather more to the left of centre, not surprisingly in their view the BBC is biased to the right and the establishment.
Personally I still feel that the BBC is more neutral than most if not all the assorted media.
Oh dear, amazing how often the BBC is equally accused of right wing prejudice and favouring the “establishment”, must be getting it reasonably right.
I had the benefit of Grammar School education, but I didn’t get there because Daddy was rich or knew the “right” people, I got there by passing the much maligned 11+ exam, I also took an entrance exam for the school I went to.
Now I understand those who condemned the 11+ as determining a youngster’s future before they had even got started, but this school did take on a number of fee paying pupils who were all in school boarders, interestingly the boarders (who were all in one “house” and not subject to entrance qualifications) were overall the lowest achievers both academically and surprisingly in sports.
Pure chance?, or did the 11+ serve a purpose? was streaming at that age a good or a bad thing?
The best education must be available to all whatever their origins and not dependent on the size of Daddy’s wallet.
Well it certainly does. I always thought it meant a term of comtempt. Y’know like ‘socialist’ or ‘environmentalist’
“…..metropolitan liberal elite….” Meaning the Marxist/Labourite mob that live in either Islington or Hampstead and think that they are entitled to everything !
I take it then the metropolitan capitalist elite who think they are entitled to everything are the OK guys?
I don’t know how you come to acquire such a blinkered outlook, like it or not there are good points to be found from people from all walks of life and political persuasions.
Puts a different light on the term, water hazard.

Must confess never thought I would see the day when those such as you and I were dumped in the same political handcart, or is that part of UKIP strategy?.:D
I also wonder when they have finished their jail terms whether they will be booted out of the country or will it infringe their human rights?
I would publicly hang the lot of them perhaps then the message might be brought home to this pond life!
The benefits of cultural diversity, I don’t think.
Personally go for a firing squad, but at the very least every single one of these scum should be escorted to a plane directly from jail, must never under any circumstances be released on to the streets again.
Is Britain in charge of Britain ?
As for the utllities you mention. We own them, they are in this country. We take them back, preferably into public ownership..
Much of what we regard as British is owned by all comers, thanks to the selling off of every asset we had.
As far as the utilities, we don’t own them not by a hell of a long way, as regards taking them all back into public ownership, yeah bring it on, but I fear there may just be a few objections from many parts of the world and the finance sector, one or two organisations and people may just want repayment for these assets, all for taking them back, but I feel there would be repercussions in terms of trade, investment and jobs.
Your other points, I have already stated that the EU we currently have is not the organisation we voted for and a federal state of Europe does not rank high in what I wish to see, it’s incredibly easy to see the appeal of UKIP with their anti EU stance, but there is no after the exit strategy that I can see, “Creaking Door” summed that up quite neatly, as he says, to trade freely with the EU we would have to become part of the EEA and guess what, “free movement” is still very much part and parcel of the EEA.
John
Serious thought, now I know you feel that get of the EU is absolute top priority, most of us would wish for some changes to our obligations and relationship with the EU. With that in mind I and probably many others would expect our MEPs to make representing our interests their main priority, certainly I would expect UKIP MEPs to be at the forefront making their case and proving their points, reality is that UKIP MEPs have the lowest attendance record of anyone, Farage for example has attended only 28% of debates and/or votes. In other words I doubt if he has much idea of what is actually going on and yet he hopes to carry a large proportion of the electorate on a subject of which his knowledge is not much more than any normally informed individual.
For me I agree that very few of us voted for the EU that we now have, but reality is simple, even if we leave, Europe won’t simply vanish, we will still have to work with the EU in many ways and I feel we have or should have considerably more influence within the EU, than stood on the side lines.
I am also pretty sure that getting out of the EU is not that clear cut, sure we can just say that’s it we are out of here, but were will that leave this country? not in a very good place I imagine. Just for laughs let’s not forget who now owns most of our power generation and railways and even some of our water authorities, I bet they would love to operate in a country close by without the need to abide by EU rules.

You amaze me when you can be so derogatory of other peoples opinions when they don’t happen to coincide with your own, it may have escaped your notice that come a full election the majority will be eligible to vote, is your opening gambit to call everyone who does not follow in your footsteps deficient in some way, not the best plan I wouldn’t have thought.
Incidentally, I wouldn’t vote for Farage under any circumstances and I am allowed my opinion.
Re 55
– or, much more likely, an electoral pact with the Tories to keep Labour out. !
That is possibly the most dangerous tactic and quite possible from multi-faceted Thatcher worshipers.
A coalition of Cameron and Farage would be the death of what is left of our country, come on everything sold to the highest bidder or gift aided to party donors, any last remaining vestiges of the public sector destroyed, sink or swim for most with no regard for the less able, wake up all of you, Osborne can’t get even get close to balancing the books, one reason on his own admission is a drop in the returns from income tax and why would that be I wonder? is it possible it’s down to so many being on garbage earnings that they aren’t paying any income tax.
Don’t get me wrong I certainly don’t wish for the low paid to be dragged into tax brackets, I want to see living wages for all, an end to zero hours contracts, scrapping gangmaster labour, outlaw bogus self employed contacts, none of those will come from Tories or Turbo Tories.
