    Jim

Have not been on the forum for a while, knew nothing of what’s been going on, glad you’re coming round, but take it easy as one old codger to another we don’t seem to mend up quite as quickly as we once did.

    Take care Gil.

Back to the original thread, wringing hands and getting all weepy over Bomber Commands tactics during WW2 is taking the issue out of it’s time and perspective.

My late Dad was a fireman during the war, although we didn’t live in Liverpool, crews were called in from a large area during the blitz, he was involved in the the Dunnings Bridge Rd incident were a shelter was hit, no-one got out, he was on the docks when the munition ship blew up in Huskissons Dock ( I think that’s right ), sadly no longer with us, but talking to these guys gives a different perspective.

At that time if Bomber Command could have wiped Germany off the face of the world, these men would have applauded with very little concern for casualties, sure after the event there is always the question of did we do it the right way?, could it have been done differently? but at the time it probably felt very right and like it or not no-one can unexplode bombs.

it is a wonder he wasn’t done for assault.

The “lady” was threatening action on those lines, but strangely couldn’t find any witnesses to support her.

Mobile phones a bit like dogs really, mobile phone very handy and convenient piece of equipment, the problems are with the idiots allowed to have them.

Have had the pleasure of seeing the check out scenario resolved by another customer, this “lady” was being a totall a@@e waffling away on the phone and ignoring her shopping piled around, then to add insult to injury finished one call then proceeded to start dialling someone else, the guy stood behind her asked quite politely that she collect her shopping and move on before making another call, not quite sure how to spell the reply, but none of it suitable for a public forum, the guy calmy reached forward, took the phone and launched it through the door, which was fortunately open at the time.

The “lady” became somewhat abusive and threatening, then it slowly dawned on the stupid mare that everyone around had grins a mile wide and were congratulating the guy. “Lady” stalked off to a round of applause leaving shopping behind.

The latest babbling from the court of Human Rights must be manna to Farage, evidently dishing out whole life sentences to multiple killers, in many cases repeat offenders who have been jailed once for murder, then turned loose to kill again, is, wait for it………………………………………..contravening their ( the killers ) human rights.

You couldn’t make it up, the mind boggles, just what planet do these judges hail from.

I’m glad they’re kicking this criminal out, there are plenty of legitimate avenues to protest about inequality and elitism, so there is no excuse for his behaviour.

Personally I’m more concerned about all the idiots who would like blow most of us up, those who feel that the UK is a great provider but an evil country, than some plant pot disrupting the ruddy boat race which in the national scheme of things not exactly of major importance.

“The aircraft will be on view to members of the public from 10am on Sunday 16th June. It is anticipated that thousands of aviation fans from across the Midlands will head to the Museum to catch a glimpse of the aircraft which has captured the imaginations of the public worldwide.”

Really? or you could just nip down to your local scrapyard and look for a Vauxhall Cresta they are pretty rare now as well!

Be fair, Vauxhalls of that era used to melt in the rain, 70 years in sea water, no chance.

Appalling as the Yeo matter seems to be I am actually far, far more concerned with the whole energy policy which, unless it is seriously challenged, will take the country back to the Middle Ages!

I think more likely back to the Dark Ages, literally.

Why is it that those making the decisions are totally in thrall to the renewable and “free” energy from the windmills etc, surprisingly every single one of these “green” energy sources is subsidised to death, now just let me think this through, who actually provides funds for this subsidy? it wouldn’t of course the same people who are already paying artificially inflated energy bills? to fund even more “renew-ables” which in turn will need even more subsidy to enable the energy companies to make a profit on their investment, plus of course the energy companies will also want a “little” price rise to reflect on their commitment to the cause.

Strikes me that the taxpayer and bill paying householder is on a course of running round in ever diminishing circles until s/he disappears up their own a@@e.

Did anyone see the programme from Drax where various people were busily extolling the virtues of bio-mass fuels, even to the point of bringing on a farmer chappy who allegedly was growing trees for coppicing thus supplying Drax with the alternative fuel to coal?

A few days later purely by chance saw a news clip from the USA, where environmentalists were protesting about the tree felling going on in some wild marshland type ground, the trees have never previously been felled in this area as they were unsuitable for timber use, but this company was felling everything in sight, which was then put through a shredder, drier and eventually into a pelleting machine, guess who all this work was for?, surprise, surprise it was destined for Drax power station in the UK, in other words home grown material will not come close to supplying Drax and it becomes economical to ship this pelleted wood chip to the UK because of subsidy and guarantees from the UK government, you really couldn’t make it up, anyone who thinks Alice in Wonderland is fantasy, think again.

This day and age torture is not something to be tolerated as indeed it should not have been at the time of these incidents.

This not intended as any sort of excuse, but I do remember the Mau Mau not being exactly adherents to any civilised conventions by a long way, the gangs were very familiar with slaughter, rape, destruction of anyone or anything, so I take it that victims of the Mau Mau are now going to be compensated for the atrocities they endured, having said that, most civilians didn’t survive an encounter with the Mau Mau.

    Funny old world.
