The thing that fecks me off no end are the drivers that dawdle along the bypass (which is a 70 limit) doing about 50. Especially at night.

My favourites are the ones who drive at 40mph everywhere, speed limits, conditions or other road users mean nothing to these characters, they end up as a menace in town and out on the open road as well.

Before anyone says it age is not a criteria, I used to at times utter the immortal words “dozy old bu##er” at some driver oblivious to any one else, I am now finding that the “dozy etc” are considerably younger than me, I feel age merely exaggerates bad driving, doesn’t cause it.

The reality is that privatisation is only a small part of the dire situation we find ourselves in now. I agree about the lack of investment but then where would have been with nationalised utilities. Hugely inefficiently run, soaking up billions of taxpayers money.

The truth is down to ridiculously high emmission reduction targets set under EU rules, and unattainable committments to one of the biggest white elephants on the planet – wind turbines. That shambles epitomises both the government’s and the opposition’s energy policy.

I would take issue with you on the inefficiency of nationalised utilities, the reason that most were sold was to hand over monopoly situations to the private sector and financiers, the guff we were fed at the time was that private investors would make the investments, would run the various utilities more efficiently and the general public would benefit from competition and see lower prices.

Now I may be ticking on a bit now, but none of that happened, in fact when investment was required so often the taxpayer picked up the bill just as before, the difference being that the milch cow didn’t see any of the benefits.

Agree totally ref: the useless windmills which are sprouting all over the place, that system can never give a guaranteed energy production, if the wind don’t blow, the sails don’t go, end of.

Half of the farce is simply down to not building replacements, it’s alright selling off the Gas, and what was the Electricity Board, but private enterprise will milk the assets without building new, then expect the taxpayer to pick up the bill. A bit like the rail network, myself I would renationalise the lot.

Gas is expensive because the UK does not have the storage capacity so in summer wen demand is low it gets pumped a Ross the channel where they have the capacity at low prices, then is pumped back at high prices during the winter.

The whole shambles is due to the privatisation of the public utilities, Thatcher’s chickens coming home to roost.

The private companies were quite happy to use the existing facilities, but no chance of them renewing or new build without subsidies or price guarantees, plus of course right now we have the gross waste of money being pumped into the useless damn windmills, which are about as effective as a chocolate teapot when it comes to reliable energy production.

Next problem, if this particular piece of pond life has any family, watch out for someone sueing the Prison Service for not taking due care.

It certainly was. She has a lot to answer for.

She can’t answer them now, but it is very true that this country still suffers from her activities.

That will warm up some blue blood on here.

My God! What’s this? a politician actually taking responsibility and being held to account for his ‘deeds’ Whatever next;)

Shame he’s years of lies and time between the event and acceptance of responsibility.

Stupidity of it all is, accepting the points and fine at the time and no-one would even remember it now, plus I can’t imagine that it would have hurt his career much at all.

I agree, give them food and clothing coupons. Then they will go and “Moonlight” on a back pocket job to get their booze and ciggies,
    Jim.

Some months back while loading our shopping onto the conveyor belt, this female clocked the fruit and veg in our shopping and tried to get me to refund her voucher for cash, I was of course was very obliging and directed her to were she could actually get fruit and veg for her kids, but somebody “cashed” her voucher, saw her buying her cigs later.
