For my sins I ran a rural Polling Station in deepest Sussex yesterday. With staffing fees, expenses, hire of facility etc I estimate the cost of my one little station must have been around £1,500.00 at the very least.

We had 71 voters through from opening at 7am (the first at 9.15) and closing at 10pm. (the last vote at about 9pm) This out of an electoral register of 1,185 eligible voters.

Of those, I am aware that a number (at least seven) deliberately spoiled their ballot papers. Of the other voters, a good many had no idea what they were voting for, who they were voting for…..or why! I would estimate that 75% of the voters all complained they had had no official information (aside from a poll card) and NOTHING from any of the five canditates.

I don’t think “shambolic” adequately sums it up. An obscene and farcical waste of money this country does not have to waste is part-way there, though.

Snap, I could have written that post almost word for word, only differences our electoral register was slightly bigger, the area a suburban/rural mix and we got 64 voters through the door.

Another day, another ill-thought out and poorly executed Tory policy. £75 million for nothing. Good effort.

The whole thing should be abandoned and Theresa May should resign.

The cost is now north of £100m and will probably rise.

Sadly that probably sums up ALL of our governments (any colour) since circa 1950

True to a degree, but this government is attacking the ordinary people of the country, the constant drip feed of everyone on benefits is a lowlife scrounging scum bag, the attacks and cutting back on help for those on low incomes, the deliberate destruction and downgrading of jobs

Yet miraculously directors of the FTSE 100 companies managed an average 27% wage rise, top earners and big corporations are still shifting money out of the country to tax havens unhindered, politicians are now just waking up to the extent of this, or more likely a better informed general public is getting increasingly resentful of the whole sorry mess.

Still, not voting, as many have stated this should be non-political yet all the candidates are calling themselves Independent, Conservative, Labour etc…

    How about bricklayer, electrician, unemployed?….

The reason is actually dead simple, quick instance, for a general election candidates put up a deposit of £500 which is refundable provided a percentage of the vote is gained.

The deposit for each individual candidate for the PCC IS £5000, how many private individuals are going to stake £5000 which they stand a very good chance of loosing.

Only those with some backing can even stand, deliberate possibly?

…the greatest increase in wealth for everybody, and especially the rich, is accomplished by growth not austerity!

Sadly the rich are doing very nicely thank you, average wage rise for FTSE 100 directors 27%, we have money for Tory pet projects virtually all of which revolve around glad handing public services to private companies who then get away with charging what the hell they like, because of course their guaranteed income comes via the tax payer.

I am aware that the economic financial situation is not good, I am also aware that there is very little easy money to splash around, but our current gang of charlatans are most assuredly using the situation for their own ideological ends and blaming every man and his dog for their failures.

I have never pretended to be a Tory, in fact I worship the ground they’ve got coming to them, but by the same token I’m not some closet communist,
but this has got to be the most incompetent useless gang ever, certainly within my memory

Of course he was after a reaction but to have him arrested is such as massive waste of police time. The same police we are told that are so under-manned and over-worked but can waste time on this little scrote and an internet picture.

If he had done this at home, he should have received a smacked **** and sent to bed without supper or bedtime story, a childish punishment for a childish action.

Sadly this thicko is regarded as a young adult, but with the mentality of a 9 year old, there are times when I’m glad to be old and never need to work alongside numb-nuts like this.

I wonder what action he would have received, had he publically burned the Koran?

    Jim.
    Lincoln .7

For me any action which is aimed to serve no other purpose than to insult, demean or provoke has nothing whatsoever to do with freedom of speech.

We know very well what sort of reaction that would provoke, but I suppose in some peoples perception, that is just another expression of freedom of speech.

If enough people stopped paying the licence the BBC would run out of money, stop making programmes and so there wouldn’t be any catch up for you to watch anyway.

That was top of Murdoch’s wish list and he would probably have got it but for the hacking scandal blowing him out the water.

Remember who was the very first visitor to Camercon after the election, in to present his card and bill for services rendered.
