Books with an aviation theme
Try
Joint Force Harrier—- Harrier ops in Afghanistan
Spitfire by Leo McKinstry—-pretty obvious subject
Empire of The Clouds by James Hamilton-Paterson—Bit of a nostalgia fest for those of us not quite as young as we were, the only problem with the book it does arouse a certain urge to go out and look for politicians to shoot.
Dakota
BoBMF Dakota very low over Southport, heading East when seen, no idea where it’s been or where it’s going.

I wouldnt want to be stationed down there in the winter!!
Wouldn’t fancy it a right lot in the summer:D
Fairly close to my home is a military live fire rifle range, occasionally exercises are run involving troop movement by helicopter, at times ground attack aircraft are called in on simulated missions.
These exercises are becoming less and less frequent particularly any aircraft involvement, but the screams from those living even comparatively close are more disturbing than any gunfire.
The reality is that the place is on the coast with no residential dwellings within 2 mile of any activity, but still some sad b’s complain.
You may have already done this, but did a quick search, finished up on You Tube, quite a few film clips of displays, one a formation of eight aircraft.
Too many clips to post links to, but might be of interest.
Love the one where what looks like members of the public going up the ladder at the back of the Beverley… todays H & S would have a field day with that one :D.
Cracking shots.
Makes you think a little, where we in any danger in those days wandering up close to live aircraft?
Today as you say H & S would have panic attacks with the general public so close to aircraft and the Beverley would have produced an instant litter of kittens.
That aside great set of pics, reminder of days now long gone,
I would like to think that this aircraft can be be recovered more or less intact, however having seen what tides and shifting sand did to a modern car in just 6 months I won’t be holding my breath.
Like many others I will still wish any recovery attempt the best of luck.
The Government should sell the RAF to private enterprise and lease it back. I think Typhoons would look splendid in EasyJet Orange.
EASYRAF would be a superb new title and think of the advertising slogans to encourage recruitment !
One itsy-bitsy problem, any advertiser may be a bit miffed if said Typhoons are haring round at usual rate of knots, can`t read the ads old boy:D
This government are scrapping aircraft before they enter sevice, unfortunately we can look forward to more early retirements and scrapping.
Cheers Big Brother is no more, but just what sort of low level idiotic rubbish will fill the space.
I can`t understand the constant demand for more channels etc, there are simply not enough programmes worth watching to fill the existing channels.

I am surprised the Buccaneer has not been mentioned, 1 flying in South Africa, 1 under restoration in UK.
Would love to see again a Buccaneer coming in hard, trailing environmentally unfriendly smoke and at the sort of height that even the birds have got their legs down.
Thanks for that collection, all those lovely lovely cold war jets.
I thought the Hunter was a done deal here?
Asthetically its perfect, even with wings full of stores; clean it looks like its leaping out of a copy of a 50s Scifi comic. And that sweet Avon song as it flies by…. just knicker wetting gorgeous.
Totally agreed, even today may be a bit elderly but as sweet and slick as you please from any angle.
