A few more.

Some more from Friday afternoon.

A few more.

Yes it was a long time ago but I clearly remember seeing EE606 and thinking how good it looked. Spare a thought Sunday as it’s twenty three years ago this weekend that Charles Church lost his life in EE606, who knows what might have been had he still been around.
11th June 1989, and Mark Hanna flew G-BOML.
Nice shot, one of my favourite shows.
Not too long to go now, will be good to see Sally B land there. Looks like it’s going to be a good day out.
There was a German-schemed one, with a gas-powered machine gun mounted in the top hatch, based with Jeff Hawke at Rochester in the 1980s. I seem to remember that it was wrecked in Germany whilst being used as a crew trainer for the Lufthansa one.
May also have been Aces High’s example.
Don’t forget the Harvard. Thought the question was what was flying in the 90’s, if you want to list every aircraft that has been on their books then be prepared for quite a list.
Lovely set, nice topsides.
Where you end up parking largely depends on which way down the A505 you are travelling when you reach Duxford.
Most years, coming from the East (M11 side) we have ended up parked North of the airfield on the domestic site, crossing over to the show on a temporary footbridge.
Parking there is free.
Don’t expect to be on your way particularly promptly at the end of the show.

Little tip for you, ignore the car park sign that directs you into the north side and carry on to the land warfare end gate.
It said static Spitfire display.
I mean’t I would have liked to have seen John Watts get to fly the Tigercat. I was in a hurry earlier.
Hard just to pick one out, for me apart from those already mentioned I’d say John Larcombe in the Blenheim and John Watts in Plane Sailing’s Tigercat. Two great pilots that are often overshadowed by others.
IIRC the Varsity in question was operated as a civil aircraft (G-BEDW?) for some years. The storms in 1987 damaged the rudder and it didnt fly after that. When did it last fly I wonder?
I suspect the ‘damage’ was done prior to its transfer to IWM.

The Varsity was still flying in July 84, I read somewhere that it suffered a bad vibration in the tail during a display at Old Warden and didn’t fly again after that, not sure what year that was or how true that is.
It was last registered on 12/8/87 so must have been airworthy still then or at least had intended to get her back in the air at that point. It’s a shame she has to go, it has been part of the duxford scene for a long time and as they scrapped the other Varsity I don’t think they should be parting with this one.
I just got my copy of the book this weekend, although I have only just had a quick look through I must say it looks a very interesting read. So thank you Andy for all your effort in producing the book. Shame people continue to knock P9374, she really does look and sound superb and is a credit to everyone involved in the reconstruction of this beautiful aircraft.
P.S. Andy there is a small error in the caption for the photo on page 157, hope you don’t mind me pointing that out.
