I think you got the wrong end of the stick.
‘Is anyone here ever going to learn about helicopters?’ followed by smilies, I took as tongue in cheek.
Maybe, but I had already worked out it was a S-58 in post no.5 so there wasn’t really any point in posting what looked like a rant! Smilies were so small on my phone so I didn’t really take to much notice of them anyway.
Which means it’s NOT a Wessex, rather a Sikorsky S-58. No Wessex ever had a piston engine.
If it’s ex-Belgium, it would be an ex-Sabena example…a civil S-58C to be exact. Is anyone here ever going to learn about helicopters? 🙂 🙂
It was me that said Wessex as I was driving at the time that I saw it and looked to be in a Wessex scheme. So not sure why you got so worked up about it?
It was a great sight but a little to far off to make out any markings. I forgot about the German S-58 still flying.
Thanks for that, lovely to see one in the air again. Is it just going to be visiting Dunsfold?
Lovely shots, and Over Here is certainly worth a look.
Very nice, do miss the Phantoms from Wattisham, but I miss that Corsair more. What was the reason for the Phantom/Corsair formation? Was it something to do with John Allison?
It surprises me that we haven’t seen all the UK Hurricanes in the air together yet.
No, it was (and still is) owned by the Paul family, but was leased to OFMC from IIRC 1984 for a few years.
Until 1989 going from memory.
If organisers used their common sense and made these days affordable then more people i.e. families could experience the magic.
Would these guys rather sell 100 tickets at £20 a head or a 1000 at £10 per head, surely you have to see the logic.
I think that logic might work better on one of your local steam fairs, but the airshows aren’t usually struggling to attract people.
Written by a “singleton” with a well filled wallet…………methinks?!!!

Actually to save you thinking, I normally pay for two adults each time. We do get 20% off as Friends of Duxford members however. I wonder how long my admission fee would run almost 40 aircraft for.
So I still say it’s a small price to pay for what you get.
If airshow organisers want to attract more folk to come in and part with their money: they have to a). attract people in (yes just like a shop) and b). make it affordable.
I can’t see where Airshows aren’t affordable, £20-30 is nothing to watch a three hour display at Duxford for instance. The admission price hasn’t gone up dramatically over the last ten to fifteen years.
It will be a shame not to see Flapjack displaying Miss Demeanour any longer, always a great display and a friendly chap too. I won’t forget his run in to display at Eastbourne past Beachy Head in 2012 in a hurry!
Says here there is also a Fulmar in the piccy.

Lovely shot G-ORDY, Mildenhall was it?
Just a guess, I didn’t know about that incident. What was the caravan for behind it? Was Woodhall Spa in use for gliding at that time?
