Even that is rather out of date now.

92fis, as he fly’s over “hopington” “every time he aviates” I need to make sure he knows where he is at all times, or at any time ???? Keith.

Easy mistake to make, as the n in Honington isn’t that clear if you just glance at it.

    Honnington?

    j/k

    Is Barnham shown? possiblty renamed?

Barnham was never an airfield, It was just a bomb store that was built early fifties.

As an aviator I am sure this will be so easy ????

    Where is this place ???

    6.77 miles WSW of Thetford.
12.12 miles NE of Bury St Edmunds.
    21.48 miles SE of Norwich.
    9.59 miles E of Diss.

Name that place ?? Keith haha ! Mate !

They are rather strange directions for just one place.

Possible, there were five ‘C’ types originally. Like you say I hope the art deco style control tower will survive.

Yes there were 5 C type hangars once.

I forgot to mention that as it only ever had steel matting for the three runways you won’t see any sign of them on google earth.

    The plot thickens…

If the archaeologists were doing a site investigation, then I suspect that they were not digging that deep (though I know nothing of the local geography/geology). Bet they moved a bit sharpish when they realised what they were scraping with the trowel! 😮

If there were two bombs close together and close to the surface, I wonder whether they were simply “mislaid” and got covered in rubbish at some point afterwards, perhaps buried by later landscaping? Of course as Colin says they may have been hang-ups that finally fell off, so the two may be together by chance. Just wish they’d say a bit more about them!

    Adrian

I wouldn’t worry too much, I have worked with some of those archaeologists probably before and they don’t do things too swiftly. It took a week to uncover a grave containing a horse and a soldier after i had found it for them at Lakenheath.

It appear that they have taken the plaques as well !

Sadly this is increasingly becoming a common event.

Perhaps you need to read post no.8 again. Said by someone who should know.;)

Many hunters were used by the Buccaneer squadrons in 1980, They were taken out of storage and from other units. There were quite a few different coloured F6’s at Honington as well as T7’s that year.

Here is one that did operate from Honington.

I wonder with the EEP script if they are Lightning overwing tanks?

Yes they would seem to be from lightnings, I guess the writing on them is a good clue as it would be upside down if they were underwing tanks.

Yup, missed that one hiding in the hangar. Only seven to my eyes and something that looks like a helicopter.:)

There are eight in that line, three facing backwards and five forward.:)
