Eccles?
That’s in Manchester isn’t it?
Moggy
Eccles is a small village near to Snetterton airfield.
Thought you would have known that Moggy.;)
I’m not one to show off, BUT…!- i went for a day out to Duxford years ago and (purely by luck!) they were filming ‘Memphis Belle’ there and were due to fly to Binbrook (i think) for some more scenes that morning, but were delayed by bad weather- i got there just in time to see all 5 taxying out for take off!!:D
That was a nice sight seeing 5 B-17’s, 7 Mustangs, 3 Buchons and a B-25 fly over during the filming.:)
Nice looking spitfire.
Well, just got back from the brunty area and I have to say FANTASTIC EFFORT GUYS!!!
It was truly one of those special moments to see and remember for the future, at one time I never thought I,d see a Vulcan fly again, to do so was magic.
Here’s to the future – jellied eels anyone ????:diablo:
Well done to all concerned, certainly proved quite a few people wrong.
I just hope Hairyplane hasn’t choked on his jellied eels this evening.:)
Hope this helps.
403. If you mean the RB variant, the answer is 87. If you mean the WB-57F, only two, both of which are in service with NASA.

More than two were built, but there are only two that are airworthy.
Flt Lt Leeming (RAF) shot down a skyhawk on 21/5/82 while flying a sea harrier.
It would be interesting to see if how hard it is today to get the necessary carpentry skills to recreate the wooden framework and trusses of the original hangars (two As!)
I often feel people don’t look up enough and appreciate them 🙂
I don’t know why people think that it would be hard to make those trusses.
And some more.
Interesting serial on the RNHF Sea fury.
Here’s a couple of pic’s of the one at FAST.
Had a good day today, did a survey at Stortford then shot up to Lakenheath in search of Hogs, and did I find them. The viewing area was packed, then on cue, 4 taxied out and lined up against the fence, waiting to go. I walked up the track and got right behind them. 4 F-15’s then arrived low over the top and from behind and landed, then a pair landed together, most impressive. Suddenly 2 Hogs came in to land, one did, but the other decided to do a low flyby on our side of the fence at about 50ft, amazing.
We then had a very noisy paired take off and that was that, except that I went up to the Warren and watched 2 land, they taxied over to my side and a hoard of blokes descended on the cannon area of the a/c, presumably they had been firing off at Holbeach. They then taxied with open cockpits to the other side of the airfield.
Great stuff.
I then went to the Hall but apart from the usual tankers and one Herc, the place was empty, never seen it like that.
Couple of comments, the F-100 has dissapeared from it’s pole on the gate, where’s it gone.
I took some nice vid shots but can’t find the lead to put it on here. Similarly, I have a fairly basic Fuji digi camera, but whatever I do, I can’t download anything on here, shame, I could have been the first with Lakenheath Hogs.
The F-100 is currently in the paintshop.
Yellow stars are for group lead ship and red stars are for wing lead ship.
These people give the genuine people that really do take an interest in old airfields a bad name. I can’t believe that they were walking around the old hangars at Watton while they are being taken down. Someone was seriously hurt a few weeks ago there when they fell through the hangar roof they were working on, they are lucky that they are still alive from what i was told. It could have just as easily been one of them. I also saw one comment saying that he could get into the hangar which is locked. Hopefully that will change tomorrow.:)
I know that alot of buildings on airfields have been demolished because they are constantly getting broken into and vandalised and with the actions of these people who can blame the landowners for their actions. Something needs to be done about this kind of disrespect for peoples property.
Nice shots Neal.
