Nice pic’s, and nice to see Duxford trying something different and putting a spitfire in a crash scene like the 109. Still maybe they have learned a lesson that it was an expensive waste of money after all and that the money could have been devoted to other projects.
The Yak looks to be in great condition and the spit is coming along well too.
Looks like an interesting collection they have there Gary, although the wessex did look very much like a whirlwind.:)
Currently circling St Ives/Wyton/Warboys is an Aircraft of Lockheed Electra Descent, can’t be an Orion due to the lack of a MAD boom, but seems to have a large bulge under the Fuselage ahead of the Wings……Something waiting/Looking for Mildenhall?
It was one of two EP-3E Orions that were at Mildenhall at the time.
Cheers for that Daz and Yak 11 fan.
That’s one of the Messerschmitt-Stiftung owned Bf109Gs, D-FMBB. It was originally a Hispano Buchon, rebuilt to Bf109G-6 configuration, and is one of two aircraft owned by the company, the other being the ex-Hans Dittes Bf109G-10/Buchon conversion D-FEHD (which was operated for a time by the OFMC here in the UK, and also had a spell in New Zealand).
When did it go to New Zealand Daz? I remember G-BOML going there.
When I was at Wittering circa mid 1990’s there was one doing a series of touch and goes – where was that operating from?
Lakenheath.
I’m sure that it and the buchon will do a grand job of representing the ‘enemy’. It sure beats seeing an Me108 or pilatus P2’s trying to do the job, they’re the nearest thing we are likely to see in a while so lets be grateful for that.
I always shoot using f16 it gives you a good depth of field preview.
Do you know who was flying the Buchon.
Septic.
Cliff Spink, director of Spitfire Ltd. Getting back into the swing of Buchon flying after a 7 year break and boy was he happy after flying it for the first time on Thursday[/QUOTE]
By the way they came across the airfield at Wyton it didn’t look like it took him too long to get back into it. Hopefully we will see alot more of cliff flying the Buchon in 07.
Very nice Darren, love the last two.
92fis,
Cricky that picture is very good, very atmospheric.
Thanks Stewart, having got up at 5am and been at work since 6am until 6:30pm and then having to get ready to drive for 2.5 hours i couldn’t be bothered to do much with it apart from resize it and only now going to bed at 1:15am i thought I’d leave it to Darren to show it off in his pictures. 😉
It was a lovely flypast, didn’t have my camera with me when they both came over but i managed to catch the Buchon departing. The spitfire looks great.
Ok, here one too throw into the pot…Former RAF/USAF base Sculthorpe, anyone know the ID letters it held while open, was passing there the other night and got turned over by a group of hedge hopping army types taking the old place for a spin and it brought the question to mind.
If you mean the four letter code it was EGUP i believe.
Happy birthday Ollie. 🙂 Anna said Happy birthday and told me that EN830 sends his thoughts via a pm on UKAR. I’ll post it on here later as i’m sure everyone on this thread would be interested to see what he thinks of you all.
