The cosford F-111 is an ex Lakenheath example. And the SR-71 at DX did indeed fly from Mildenhall during it’s service. This actual F-111F took part in El Dorado Canyon as Jewel 63, It’s target was a terrorist training camp at Sidi Bilal west of Tripoli. It was one of only four aircraft to get a direct hit that night. It was also one of 67 deployed to the Gulf in 1990.

The Germans had 292 F-104s written off out of a total of 916. And lost 108 German and 8 American pilots. 171 pilots ejected safely and 8 ejected twice from the German starfighters.

Yes, the 48th TFW at Lakenheath had three squadrons of 111Fs for many a long moon. I think most of the LN fleet went onto Cannon AFB unlike the Heyford ones which were retired directly to AMARC.

The 48thFW had four squadrons of F-111Fs. The cosford example is the only F model in this country, The other two are E models from Upper Heyford.

I just hope he managed to phone home before someone posted his mishap on the internet.

Anyone remember the engine problems for the HAC Hurricane at White Waltham a couple of years ago.

I believe the son of the pilot read about a “serious problem” with his fathers aircraft here first in passing. Thus causing lots of unnecessary worry. In the end it turned out to be minor but can we please remember that the internet is a powerful thing and show a bit of caution with posting news if incidents.

You mean just like you did with your guess the height of the Typhoon contest you posted on here last year.

Don’t know if this one has been posted, from THM. Surprised that nobody has posted a photo of a Victor tanker as they had a bit of dayglo on them.
