Moggy when you visited Shepherds Grove did you find the place where this pic had been taken, The location hasn’t changed too much but the hangar has been reclad. I hadn’t noticed it hanging in the AAM before until my father said about it a few weeks ago. He remembers the day the sabres first landed there and remembered the name Blood on the canopy frame of one the sabres which happens to be the name in the middle of the bottom row.
Contact me when you intend to do this.
A quick airborne tour around the locality in exchange for a pint at the Swan is the least that should be offered.
Moggy
Will do Moggy, Might be able to stretch to a couple of pints.
i was in the RAF the summer they filmed memphis belle, stationed at honington, all through the summer we used to get beat ups by formations of B17’s and assorted fighters, and camera ships. and i remember one week when on nightshift, sunbathing out the back of my barrack block with a few mates mid afternoon hearing all this distant gunfire and engine noise, we looked up and there was a big dogfight going on!
it was almost like being there for real.
It was certainly a great sight to see all of those flying over bloodnok, I lived not too far from Honington and used to see them come over most days. If you look at the Memphis belle filming 1989 thread, On page 5 of that thread there is a pic taken from one of the B-17’s and you can see your old base in it.
Still????? Great shame, since rebuild that machine must have spent most of its time resting out of permit.
It will have been sitting at duxford for 2 years in a couple of weeks time.
There is a park and view area from the wednesday before the show until the monday. Price is £15 on the day.
I’m glad you found the tree Moggy, It will be 20 years ago this year that i last saw it. Most of the names were hard to read then, but i do remember seeing some clearly with dates as well. I will have to take a visit soon to see whats left. Also at Knettishall if you go up the road towards the airfield from the memorial there is a concrete road to the left before you get to the perimeter track, Down that roadway there used to be some buildings which had a few signs painted on the wall. Not sure that these building still stand though. Shame that quite a few huts got knocked down in Coney weston but i guess you can’t save everything.
Nice shot Moggy.

Thats what i think too.
Don’t know if it was on this forum but i remember seeing a picture recently that someone had posted of Reg Hallam in Spitfire EE606 at DX in 89.
John’s apology would carry far more weight if he extended it to cover those individuals and organisations who have been a victim of his undelivered promises.

Was there any need for these remarks. As far as i see it anything that Setter had said has little or nothing to do with you Kev so who are you to say that he should apologise to anyone else. I think Setter has covered the people that matter well enough.
Does this thread have to turn into what aircraft TFC should or should not operate, Mr Grey has told us what’s happening so we should just respect that as he didn’t have to say a word about what changes he was making. Anyway thanks for posting Grayfly.
One site that mentions Sawbridgeworth has some links to some other bases so that may be how B-26’s were mentioned.
