Am I right in thinking that Ed Shipley was flying the Mustang and not Dan Friedkin as mentioned on the commentary.
I thought Memphis Belle’s 25th mission was on the 19th may, Captain Morgan’s 25th mission was on 17th may.
I’m sure she flew for some airshows when she got over her engine problems that year? wasn’t it around 2008?
I wish i’d been able to see that, even more so if i’d known about it, but as usual with these kinds of things, it probably wouldn’t have made any difference as I was somewhere else unfortunately.
Oh well, one can’t be in two places at one time, especially if it’s miles away. 😉
It was 1998.
Out of a repaint, it went there bare metal.
I would like to see the B-17 in 388th BG markings, why have they cut the corner of the square off? Anyone seen any wartime B-17’s marked up like that?
You can buy a video of the complete airshow. It was a great sight, led by Rod Dean. It was September 2000 and there were three Hurricanes.
Nice job by ARCO on AR213. A few of my shots from some of the action.
A couple from Wednesday first.

Three from this afternoon.

A few more,

A few of my shots from today.

Just had another extra long display by the F-86 with Mark Linney at the controls. Great to see it back in the air again, and beautifully flown both times.
Just had a very nice display by Cliff Spink in the F-86 and engine run by a lovely looking Spitfire too.
It definitely should run on the water again, In my opinion there is no better way of honouring man and machine. I was born well after the tragic event but it seems like I have always known and been interested in the Bluebird story, I never thought I’d see the day when she was raised and rebuilt and to have found Donald’s remains after all those years and end a mystery of his whereabouts. The team deserve the chance to run Bluebird again after all the effort that has been put in to the project. The whole thing has been a big part of British history and how better to honour a mans achievements and something he dedicated his life to than to run that boat on the same piece of water and then place it in that museum building for all to see.
Beautiful shots, the Anson looks superb.
I agree with that last sentence very much. I always enjoy Dan Griffith’s displays too – it seems invidious to single some pilots from others. We are very lucky, as you say.
Yes there are several excellent display pilots, the point was being made that it’s great to see Lee at the controls as I haven’t seen him fly it for almost two years. And like Alister Kay and Nigel Lamb they still fly in the same style as Mark and Ray when they were all part of the Breitling Fighters team.
