He mentioned he knew you Tony. Something about Hurricane centre sections if I recall :p
Good idea John
I’ll give it a try. Bisley is also an excellent idea.
Dig out your yellow pages and give your local gun club a ring, there is always someone who re-loads their own ammunition and .303 is a very common round so chances are that there would be some willing donations of old cartridges.
Regards,
John.
Hi Rob
PM sent.
Not sure what your laws are regarding importation, but I’m sure I could find a few machinegunners over here in the US who might be willing to put together some linked .303 belts (cases and inert bullets only – no primers or powder) for a fair price. Would an item like that be restricted for import into the UK?
There’s no mad rush :p
Looks like you have a fun time ahaead locating that lot then.
I was indeed talking about the bullets, but so far we have 100 inert round and 100 cartridge cases.
Only another 3800 to go to make up the 1000 rounds per gun 🙂
Thanks to RLangham for his offer of help – PM sent.
Thanks for the ideas guys – yes Peter – they are destined for the rear turret.
Casting is a nice option – very quick, but I need to hook up with a woodworking shop at some point so wooden ones appeal greatly.
Moggy – they are not always safe! I was offered some tracers recently. There is also an incendiary variety out there – well worth avoiding as I like my fingers where they are 😉
Thanks folks
exmpa good idea especially if they are being used in a static display like a turrett or something?
Yes, good luck tony and Martin!
Does anyone know what happened to the 11 or so containers of spares that also ended up on the dock in Cyprus?
Cheers
My first thought was Frank Carey – its the rolled up shirt sleeves 🙂
Very workman-like.
They also recently built the tailend of a Whitley to mount their FN4 turret on.
Yes, it is way too expensive. The owner may negotiate if it fails to sell a second time.
The reserve is too much for me!! I can afford £250 but not the multiple of that figure required….sorry
Hi Peter
I didn’t see it – one will probably turn up at some point….
😀
wasnt there one on ebay recently?
Hey Mike
Alas not – haven’t seen a Vickers K for quite a while. I’m not too worried about this at the moment 🙂
The whole thing has been blasted – it’s now being primed (slowly!) and should be back together again – good as new – in about 2 weeks (minus glazing).
I’ll post some pics when it’s done (and send you as many as i can take).
Cheers
Hi Elliott,
Just kidding about the spares, but I’d certainly love to see more pictures of the cupola.
Have you been able to locate an actual Vickers “K” gun or replica?
Cheers,
Hi Mike
It belonged to a friend – took a long time to find a suitable trade however…
I can certainly send you a ton of pics of it if this helps?
Cheers mate
Hi Bob
I’d be interested to see any pics/info you have of the R1082 and T1083, TR9F and DF loop setup. Overhauling part of the DF loop shaft at the moment!
Cheers
