The folks at East Kirkby ahve a lot of nose wreckage. It’s possible they would have a similar item or at least a parts catalogue. Either way, an excellent find! How did you come by it?
Do any moderators out there have a view? Would it be allowable if it were not for commercial gain? I have lots of odds and ends that are surplus to requirements….
I agree old fart, but no one else seems to 😮
Agree it wouls be good, get rid of all that old crap to some other mug…ooops did I say that out loud what I was meant to say was…
erm sell on all the collectables to other like minded people. 😉
Seriously I do think it would be worth giving it a go if it dose not work out it can always be removed again.
Show off :diablo:
It ‘normally’ is!
They do host talks and things – Philip Baldock is the man behind it if memory serves me correctly. they have a section of Whitley undercarriage.
Cheers
Elliott
Nope dont think they have the MiG hulk -thats at the Fenland and West Norfolk – a top bunch of chaps with an ace museum by the way – they kindly loaned us a Hurri 1 merlin for display – i have tried to get to see the Robertsbridge Museum for at least 10 years i think they open at odd hours and are more of a ‘collecting society’ – that may be unfair but they are never open when i’ve been past 🙁 – that said i wrote to them about an engine last year and they were absolutely charming…maybe a manpower issue?
Hi Ant
I think that Skysport were selling a prop a little while back? it was on barnstormers….
Good luck
Hi folks,
Does anyone know how many bits and pieces of Armstrong Whitworth Siskin there are still extant? I’ve heard that the Midland Air Museum have a complete wing in storage, and perhaps some other parts too. I’ve also heard rumours that there may be some components stored in a couple of Canadian museums (the Siskin was the RCAF’s first fighter),does anyone know whether this is true and if so how much stuff there is?
I’d also be interested to know how much survives in terms of technical drawings and manuals etc.
I can’t let on as to why I’m asking which is a bit unfair I know, but any leads would be much appreciated.
Sorry to hear you had a heart op Nick. Hope you are recovering well.
I was bound by a promise to the TT not to reveal too much – but am now willing to answer any questions – we have some 700+ photos & as I am still off work following my heart op I intend to use the time to get a decent page on our website ASAP.
I note on the other thread questions raised about getting involved with TV & have to confess it was a difficult decision – we have been approached several times & before this and turned most down – we have also been asked for stories by national papers & done the same – One of our main concerns was how any relatives may react and this project was done with the full consent of those we managed to trace.
Awesome – I love those little Oscars. Lets keep our fingers crossed she has a safe run in.
Thursday the 27th the FAA will be out to sign off the Oscar.. We will then taxi around before the weather gets bad …
Outstanding work. they are really setting the standard with this restoration.
I wonder if they will put a book together on her recovery and restoration? I would really love to see that.

Hi guys
Word on the street is that this baby has a new home to go to. Should be moved by summer 05, although she will continue to remain outside – at least she will be looked at and given some TLC.
[B/S MODE ON]maybe it’s a boasting thing – doesn’t it sound much more interesting and adventurous to have the retrieval of a junkpile from Russia on the records ? Maybe it’s downright boring just to rescue the one (junkpile) from just around the corner. It’s the air of mistery surrounding such a wreck brought back from the ‘wilderness’ [/B/S MODE OFF]
Honestly – I’d rather see the fire-dump queens and all those other neglected ‘restoration projects’ saved first.
Period.

Any part numbers TT?
Well I was told it was a Malcolm Hood! ?! But on the grounds you guys know more about it than i do – and I’ve never seen one – I dunno!!!
To be honest i did think about Firefly……
I did – I wondered for a while if they were whitley, but they turned out to be Beaufighter X.
Sorry cant help but did you see the Dakota wheels which were used on a farm trailer also on Ebay
Hi TT

Isn’t the rosette on the aircrew over europe ribbon for the battle of britain?
Help needed to answer a medal entitlement question. I have in my possession my Great Uncles WW2 campaign medals for service with the RAF which are: 39-45 Star, North Africa Star with North Africa 42-43 Bar, France & Germany Star, Defence Medal & 39-45 Medal. However on the dress ribbons the France & Germany Star is missing but in its place is the Aircrew Europe Star with a rosette I presume for France & Germany. Should he have received the actual AirCrew Europe Star medal as well as the France Germany Star as he flew Typhoons both before and after D Day?
Thanks,
Andy
Hi Pete
If you have some dates I can probably find you some info on the Dornier incident. Any ideas?
BTW Lewis guns were always jamming – some say you were more likely to bring down an enemy a/c by chucking the gun at them!
I was very moved by all your messages of condolence about my dad,had me in tears.
I managed to recover the famous war diaries yesterday but haven’t studied them yet, unfortunately I couldn’t find the photo’s that he took during the war, they’re out there somewhere however, found loads of stuff including Luftwaffe insignia.
2 incidents came to mind which someone may know more about,in 1941? the old boy was on anti invasion guard in the Mablethorpe area manning a Lewis gun ( we have a photo of this somewhere ),he was suddenly confronted by a low flying Dornier? heading along the beach,at point blank range he pointed the Lewis gun at the bomber, realising he was about to get a promotion or medal for this,he loosed off at the aircraft, sadly sand had got into the breach and the gun jammed, the bomber flew north and he always reckoned that a Hurricane shot it down over Saltfleet.
The second incident in the area occured during an army-air co-operation exercise,a Lysander was spotting for the guns off the coast when a Spitfire flew straight into it,both planes disintegrated and fell into the sea with no survivors.
If anyone has more information on these incidents I would be interested to know.
