Yes Denis – the same one. That was a good day!
Yes, that looks Anson to me Brian
I don’t recognise those numbers. Any chance of a pic?
Superbly written piece – I wish I had known him. Blue skies sir
Thanks everyone for your posts and advice – I added some pics to the first post to give it a bit more substance. The shipment will probably arrive in the northwest, so it would be logical to store it nearby but I am open to storage anywhere in the UK.
Thanks to anyone who can help
Yes, the prototype Whitley was built at Whitley Abbey
That would fit as I had it down as a mk III or V
Looking for a Chipmunk Propeller
.Have lots of other chipmunk bits to trade
I found a Chipmunk prop in California recently but the guy wanted silly money for it Dave
Superb Sunderland video Scotavia. The company is based in Norway so the Sunderland must be nearby. I think it must have been scuttled as the working platforms are extended and the engines were removed…
That would be great OneEightBit
This Whitley cowling popped up on ebay a while ago. It’s the bottom cowling and sits underneath one of the Merlin Xs. It was found at Chepstow Racecourse which was the site of an old Maintenance Unit – it’s not clear which Whitley it came from. I am indebted to Ian_ who helped me out and picked it up for me – thank you Ian… It is upside down in the second picture – the square cutout is for the radiator door (which was also included) – there were air scoops fitted on both sides.
As Ian said, a useful piece of Whitley!
One of the scoops and the radiator door can be seen in the b&w picture. I’m pretty confident that with some hard work all of this material can be re-used.

Great find sir
Good idea for a thread. Where are the great aviation libraries of the world?
the RAF Museum is one… any other candidates?
It is more likely from a Whitley as so many used the Merlin X. Could the prop be available? I’m still looking for a hub for our Whitley
Looks like some chancer has sprayed it with a couple of cans from Halfords
