That was the inference I took from the listing too, as all other weapons listed seem to have proof details – However, as firearms specialists they should know better, as documentary evidence of suitable inspection is still required for ALL relic firearms for them to be considered as outside the terms of the Firearms Act – i.e. deactivated.
flash suppressor looked odd to me on a supposedly wing mounted fighter weapon – perhaps someone with more expert knowledge could comment on this listing – guide price looks pretty realistic if provenance bears out though.
I agree – flash supressors were usually used on turrets. Seems odd to me…

A couple of recent turret related acquisitions. An ivorine label from the front turret and a makers plate for the Whitley FN17 ventral ‘dustbin’ turret. This is to my knowledge the only bit of FN17 still surviving! The dustbin turret was deleted on the Whitley V so we do not need one.

Hi Ewan
I have a load of beaufort/beaufighter control pullies from under the pilots floor. If you are interested let me know…
Regards
Thanks everyone.
I will try to find Bob Day, although a forum search keeps coming up with Battle of Britain Day!
Yes, they would normally carry desert equipment.
I’d be very surprised if he did not survive the landing.
Thanks Steve
I’ll send you a PM
Happy birthday RAFM!
Are the last two amunition track or something similar ?
Steve
That’s what they look like to me
I am not sure that is so, is it Elliot??
The only speculation has been with regards to the still-missing crew.
And I am not sure that the circumstances (three digs, no remains reported and the identities of the crew announced in the national press) has exactly been hearsay.
RIP to the crew of this aircraft. I will be thinking of them this morning.
The bare facts concerning the details of the aircraft and crew may be correct, but much of this information on this thread seems to be based on ‘sources’, the assumption that tangible remains have survived, anonymous internet postings on this and other forums, and newspaper reports – the accuracy of some of which have been questioned.
Now, on this forum, a mans name has been linked with potential allegations of ‘grave robbery’ and ‘disturbing’ practices during previous excavations.
I don’t know Tony Graves – I have never spoken to him and I have no plans to meet him, but i’m a bit surprised a thread like this can run in this day and age.
Recent events in the UK news with a well known Tory politician spring to mind!
Most of this thread seems to be speculation and heresay unless i’m missing something? I’m a bit surprised it’s been allowed to continue…
I don’t know. I’m just dissapointed it isn’t also signed by the dog.
Hi Pete
Its a yank instrument – why not try over on wix?
