A real pity – there must have been an awful lot of hard work to gather all that meterial. What do you make of the Bristol engine – looks like a late version?
Hi Ian
That’s a later extinguisher – unfortunately not Whitley but a pretty good find! Be interested to see some of the AW bits you found… If they are stainless they are likely to be albemarle.
Still have some link chutes – dont worry – i’ll keep some for you
I’ll try and give you a ring later
Thanks Twin Otter and Hindenberg for your help – i’ll be sure to speak with them.
Not this minute, but will be a step closer once the company making my square tube get their finger out…!
Not painting anything right now Baz but need to keep a record of paint removed during cleaning… I try to avoid removing paint when possible…
Cheers
Being nosey here, what are you painting?:)
Baz
Did that bracket come from a hurricane dig? Wow – surprising…
Hi Ant
Yes, it’s an AW part but not Whitley – the number is outside the range. I think it’s highly likely to be Albermarle, although I don’t have a parts catalogue to confirm – David Stansfield will be your man.
Ok guys – thank you VERY much for all your excellent posts. The subject seems to have been nailed :). I think I’m going to obtain a colorimeter and book of pantones.
Not a bad idea… sounds simple and relaible…
When I needed to colour match for a model of a historic race car an artist friend who airbrushed a lot of motorsport artwork turned up with a massive book of Pantone colour chips and we matched them as closely as possible to the car. I appreciate that this may not be the best way but I can’t think of any more helpful solution at the moment.
Cracking idea Andy – Brian – fancy a trip down to tropical Croydon :p
Alex – I was emailed another picture today of a piece of instrument panel that was excavated recently. It is painted black. I’ll fwd it to you later – hope that helps.
Cheers
Elliott
I have to stand by my original response Alex – I would go for black. The problem is no intact instrument panel survives. The fragment I sent a picture of to you has traces of black paint present around a switch unit.
The panel was aluminium and would have been painted but I think green would be an unlikely colour.
I think the altered shade may be due to the inclination of the panel as it sits at a different angle to the blind flying panel, a different shade of black as the blind flying panel was supplied already painted, or perhaps even a different finish – such as ‘crinkle black’.
Thanks Everyone – you too! Hope 2011 is fruitful for you and all you do…
Thankyou Elliot !!!and a Happy New Year to you !!
I was told Beaufort Pete, but could well be if you think so. I have some spare if you want them. The diameter is 3.5″ (just found a ruler!).
Don’t worry – it’ll be on the iPlayer. It was good – the wife now wants to visit Hull…!
