Photos please!! :D:D
Sounds like a good idea Andy – haven’t spoken to him in ages… Will try and find his number and give him a bell.
Cheers!
That’s a TR9 controller. The Stirling used the TR9F – both items are rare beasts.
By the way – the Stirling window knobs look a lot like the friction adjuster knob in the hurricane cockpit.

Hi David
Not whitleys I’m afraid – they did not use Bristol turrets. The obvious suggestion is the Blenheim!
Cheers
Again thanks.
A thing of beauty Cees – it really looks fantastic. I’m looking forward to getting the Whitley to that stage one day in the future.
Hi Johnny
Yes it will be part of the DF loop housing. I have a fair collection of parts now but not a complete unit. It sounds like it might be the right size for the Whitley. Might it be available for sale or trade?
Cheers

Evening chaps
Whilst digging at the back of a shed I have come across a bakelite dome. It is around eleven inches in diameter and about 6 1/2 inches high. There is a flanged, recessed hole at the top where I would assume the retaining nut would go and the rim has a grove cast into it. It appears never to have been painted. Inside the dome is the air ministry number 10B/10591.
My first thought was the front of the torpedo shaped aerial to be found atop Wellingtons, Whitleys and such like, but do any of you have any better ideas?
Thanks
JK
What a beautiful panel! Great find! Please don’t respray it – the paint may be a bit chipped but it looks original.
Cees and Peter are definately your first point of call re instruments and placards.
I have some instruments spare – pm me if you want to do a trade.
Cheers
Quite – to call the issue nonsense is at best ignorant and at worst downright dangerous.
Hi Ian – just checked the part number on that round inspection panel – it is Whitley – fits on the bottom engine cowling. Found on the same spot occupied by the rather Whitley-like aircraft in your aerial pic. I think that wraps it up nicely!
Here’s some pics…
I still can’t get over that Lancaster seat and control column you made – exquisite!
I’m looking fwd to seeing your Whitley progress Alex. Obviously I’ll help all I can.
I’m with Aldertag and Al (Al knows a thing or two about spotting Whitleys from the air). I think the back three look like Whitleys – the front three might be but the wings don’t look quite right – could just be artefact.
Ian – is that access panel available? It looks like Whitley – I have a few but they are in poor condition.
Cheers
Thanks Andy – some nice shots
We are carrying out a Whitley recovery next year. You’d be welcome to film if you are interested. Just drop me a pm – cheers
Pete – if the tip is detachable there may be a serial number inside but I think the odds are against it. Cheers
