Thanks for sharing! You should pop over to Le Bourget when we are there!

Thanks for your comment 27vet, and Le Bourget is a place I would like to visit! Equally, ATC Lasham at Southend is most experienced in accepting executive 727s and a few would welcome a visit of your aircraft!

Thanks Culpano, crispy, and barney for your comments too.

Barney: Unfortunately I don’t work airside – and all the photos were taken from public areas. Although a few of the old spots have been lost – the runweay extnesion ahs created some excellent spots. Many of the photos were taken from the 06 end of the runway which has good views from by the church and on the raised footpath on the other side. The Anotnov and the Air Astana photos were taken through the fence by Viscount House (as Alan said, by the old terminal).

Here’s a couple more photos from yesterday of the second 737 for Discovery Air going flying on a short airtest under its Nigerian registration. It is the former G-TOYK:

Thanks EGTC, Alan and 8674 Planes – glad you like them. If only every weekend was like that at SEN!

Nicely done despite the prevailing conditions. Good variety and some rare catches.

Superb! That could well be one of, if not the last 727 departure out of Southend. Great Aeroplane.

Thanks Crispy. Unfortunately you may be right! Even in 2011 727 movements were reasonably frequent with at least 3 different aircraft visiting sometimes multiple times a year for maintenance. In 2012 however there were none at all! I agree, a great aeroplane and still excellent to them fly today.

Thanks All for your comments. Is was brilliant to it finally fly.

EGTC – I understand further maintenance and eventually a new coat of paint (not at Lasham).

Alan – very nice anecdote, must have been quite a sight. I saw a similar effect from a 757 with the left over dirt just after the runway extension opened.

Nice to see another prospective of its very impressive departure! Certainly a special day at Southend Airport!

This will preumably be the second B.727 for the anti-pollution spray company based at Hurn. Can’t find the thread for the photos and details of the first one delivered.

    http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?125602-Boeing-727&highlight=G-OSRA

Here is the thread for the first B.727 delivered to Oil Spill Response.

No – I understand it is currently planned to eventually return to Africa. The second oil spill response 727 is currently under maintenance in the States. I think they will appreciate a slightly younger and better 727 than 9Q-CDC!

G-OSRA did also fly as ‘Tiger 1’ – which may be why there is confusion. I believe it was just the crew from G-OSRA which ferried the aircraft. I hope this clarifies things!

Thanks mike for your comment – I missed at the time!

garyrussell – I see what you mean now. The photo was taken at 70 mm at a standing height, but I they do look like they are hanging low. A possible cause could be that the ATR was heavily loaded? SEN-DUB is a relatively long sector for the ATR. For cause of comparison – here’s of EHH and another of an empty Blue Islands ATR taken at a similar distance. There clearly is a difference. Well spotted!

Thanks garryrussell, glens45 and crispy. I’m glad you like them, as I’ve been pretty fortunate with the weather for the time of year.

garryrussell: Yes I believe that may have been its very last flight under under the TCX AOC. It was at Southend for end of lease maintenance and it was departing to Manchester as TCX32M.

A final one from today in the sun, a Malmo RJ100 in the special Swedish football team scheme:

Thanks for the info Derek – 1/160th second is as slow as I dare go too albeit at relatively short focal lengths.

Once again, an excellent set of shots.

    Thanks Gary and Mike.

You are correct Newforest, the gear doors look like unusual because the gear is retracting – a quirk of the old ATR!

Thanks glens45, Newforest, Culpano and civilspotter for your comments, the Discovery was probably the best movement this year at Southend.

glens45: I especially like turboprop airliners, only mundane in relative terms!!

Culpano: Again, just relatively high, but still at a good angle for photographs. It seemed about the same height as aircraft used to be before the threshold was moved 300 metres closer when the extension was built.

Thanks Mr Merry, rab5869, Culpano and EGTC.

Culpano – Could not agree more – well worth waiting for! Good luck with the weather around Christmas and with getting the TAM 767… Should be around for a few more years yet as it isn’t even a couple of years old!
