Looks like my comment about the airline not lasting long may be quite correct. I am reading that OLT Express Poland is suspending all operations with immediate effect….
!
Or perhaps not for OLT, as they are ceasing all ATR operations… Can’t see the airline lasting a long time taking delivery of aircraft one week, and deciding to get rid of them the next.
Very nice shots either way!
Thanks EGTC, I did prefer my latest trip photographically.
Game On…
Nice shots of a very decent visitor Keith. We were meant to have a (passenger) Yakutia 757 at SEN last year, but it never turned up. 😡
All I need now is the Congolese 727 to come out of the hangar at SEN…. 😎
You certainly don’t want to visit Southend around the Olympics time, as there’s practically nothing (of any description) due. Summer is also the quietest time of year for the maintenance movements. Even I’ll be migrating to Stansted…
To have a chance of getting something decent at Southend you need to be able to visit at a seconds notice. Even when things are supposed to happen, they often don’t. However things are much better at Southend now, as it is unofficially the ATR 42 capital of the UK, and has a few easyJet flights for entertainment!!
Agree with EGTC, I’m afraid Culpano. I think it is true that over the last decade more airlines have been to SEN than MAN, you would be very, very surprised. A little anecdote, I was passing through Moscow Domodedovo, and I wasn’t compelled to get my camera out as I did not see a single airline which came in photographing distance which hadn’t been to SEN!
However this debate is purely academic, as this is over a period of 10 years, and for day to day spotting MAN is far superior. The rare stuff can be seemingly few and far between. but sometimes there are runs of days with lots of incredible stuff, the fact it is so unpredictable makes it all so much more engaging.
I would suggest that over the years far more airlines have visited Southend than Gatwick, Heathrow or Manchester. My shots really do scratch the surface. And certainly in terms of rarity, some very rare and unusual airlines have visited Southend which are never otherwise seen in the UK. Anyone fancy producing a shot of a Starbow or AeroGal (except Norwich of course) somewhere else in the UK?
Thanks for all the comments, I appreciate the feedback as always. Can certainly get some interesting stuff at Southend.
Manchester spotters don’t fret, I’m sure you’ll see plenty of G-LSAN, albeit once its been repainted into Jet2 colours…
On a more serious note, Manchester did also ‘steal’ a Sky Airline A319 which was ferried all white from SEN-MAN for painting.
Thanks again for all of your comments, they are much appreciated. I agree with you Cloud_9 about the BA Saab, it does look great, and I wouldn’t have guessed such a thing would ever exist last year. Really appreciate your feedback. Many thanks.
Many thanks for all of your comments, I’m glad these were of interest. I have to say I am surprised by the response. The place certainly is good for both photography and traffic, and certainly would recommend visiting. If so do be mindful of the banks of departures, with the early mornings and evenings being by far the best time to go. Still nice to see otherwise unusual airlines and types.
Many thanks again Culpano. All of my shots are taken from behind the perimeter fence, however there are certainly some fantastic spots. Although some have been lost with all he development, some very nice new ones have been made by the runway extension. I certainly hope Southend is like a mini-Frankfurt for the Olympics, but so little seems known at this late stage. I’m sure plenty of biz jets are almost certain, but they are not my sort of thing.
Garyrussell, I’ve got no more ‘nice light’ shots at the moment, but certainly would like to get some more. Best I can do is a Golden Air ATR72 I got this morning, however the light was a bit harsh bu at least the sun was shining.

Thanks for both of your responses, glad you liked my photos.
Thanks for all of you comments. The problem with Southend is that you can wait weeks for an interesting maintenance movement, and then you get several in quick secession!
The AeroGal 757 was really great. I new it was destined for Jet2 and where therefore it was coming from, but did not expect to see it in full livery, as it had been stored for over two years.
~Alan~ – I’m afraid you may have seen the Bingo inbound from its airtest at that time. If so it was making a very distinctive noise since it’s RAT was deployed.
Thanks for all your comments. The Cafe in the old terminal has been granted a stay of execution for the time being for the time being.
It is a shame to see the end of Ford Air. The 146 which was painted in their corporate colors is still sat idly on the North side of the airfield, having not flown since the demise of Flightline.
These charters must be costing Ford a fortune, with the overnighting of crews, positioning flights (including a very long one back to the operators respective base airports after having operated the outbound).
Nice pictures.
Not quite as glamorous as the days when Ford had their own fleet, but a welcome boost for Southend I am sure.
Certainly. I suppose chartering flights in are meant to part of an economy drive over owing aircraft, however with all the positioning flights which are involved for these flights, it most still be very expensive for Ford!
8674planes: Have to wait until Monday 14th May when there will be 6 passenger flight departures between 6:30 am. There will not be enough stands outside the new terminal!!
It is fantastic to see the rebirth of Southend and an upturn in traffic.
