Nice pics.
Mk.V Trop
I hope this helps. Please see photo. Its come out of the ARC / HFL workshops for a customer I cannot seem to place at present. Perhaps another forum member will know. I do know she is nearly ready for the post restoration air tests and waiting the CAA paper trail to give the ok!
Thanks for this. Looks more like a Wingco’s personal markings than squadron codes – as in Bader’s D-B – so I’m none the wiser at the moment. Who know’s, may even be the intitials of the owner? An interesting addition to the airworthy list all the same.
Duxford Spitfire Show
Despite the near gale force winds toward 5.00pm which put paid to the Spitfire flypast (there would only have been eight of them anyway due to clagged weather elsewhere) I thought it as a fantastic day.
So where was the rain? Ran in to it on way home about 20 miles west of Duxford. Duxford would have been a complete washout had the rain arrived on time.
My congratulations to the organizers and pilots who put up a great show despite increasing winds throughout the afternoon.

Nice pics considering how dull the weather was. Apart from the wind Sunday was a pleasant surprise from the original forecast. Managed a photo of just about everything in sun. I thought the Red Stars were excellent, especially considering the strong wind during their routine. The finale was superb. Pity it was only eight but beggars can’t be chosers.
JG891
It’s JG891. Interesting armament layout with four cannon – unusual for a C wing, in fact I think only two squadrons used this fit, can’t remember which sadly.
I chose the wrong day to go up sadly. The light was appalling and no Spitfires (proper) flew. Also the wind was too strong and blowing slightly towards the crowd so the displays seemed to take place miles away. Aircraft that were filling my viewfinder at Dunsfold the previous weekend were mere silhouetted pinpricks. Nice to see the Cranberry though.
Thanks for this. I’ve been waiting to see a Mk.V Trop and now Duxford’s got one I still managed to miss it. Must get over again soon. Is it staying or is it a restoration job for elsewhere?
Was it carrying squadron markings? That may help identify one squadron with the 4 cannon fit.
Spitfire Mk.V Trop
Hello All
Having spent two days out on the liveside in that wind for the last two days I can say it was worth it all in the end to get some Spits up and off the ground.
Please see a selection of my photos taken from the western end of the airfield. I have added some Spit shots but still editing the 250 I shot of Spitfires. Perhaps more later. :diablo:
Hi,
Nice pics. What was the i/d of the Spitfire Mk.V Trop please? Overslept and by the time I arrived on Sunday a couple of Spits were parked way up at the motorway end of things and without binos I could make out much in my telephoto lens.
