RE: The Sonic Cruiser
Increased capacity is what many airlines are looking for these days – especially between city pairs which are host to congested airports, such as London and New York. This is one reason why the A380 has become a reality. I really don’t know if the Sonic Cruiser will be a hit – It’s too early to tell. Though several major airlines have expressed an interest in the project, I wouldn’t dare speculate on how this new Boeing will perform. Time will tell.
RE: Turkey-A new GO destination
Dan330 – Nice photographs! I know that spot where they were taken – at the back of the Tristar hotel? I live at the spot during the summer! Those new Dash 8’s are loooooooong.
Keltic – This is indeed more good news regarding BCN. I imagine the a/c type used on this route will be the RJ100. The existing flights from Biringham to both BCN and MAD do quite well – I’d like to see more Spanish cities added though.
I hear British European are set to introduce a daily flight from Birmingham to Milan – I bet BA won’t be happy about this! They are also looking at adding a 7th daily frequency from Birmingham to Edinburgh from 3rd June.
I think I speak for us all when I say that things have looked bleak in the world of civil aviation during the past six months. I’m really pleased that things are picking up again. Stored aircaft are returning to service, and the airlines are recruiting staff again. Things are looking up at last.
RE: Pah, who needs Low Cost carriers anyway?!?!?
Indeed, and not only does it benefit the industry, but it rewards passengers with lower fares. The days of £259 fares on short intra-European flights are nearing an end…..and about time too!
RE: More C.I. news
Good to hear Jersey is doing well…
I’ve just read the passenger figures for the first half of March passing through Birmingham – We’re up 2% on this time last year! This is excellent news, and is the first increase in passengers since September. Emirates daily A330 service to Dubai is doing really well – 85% average load factors. Continental’s daily 757 to Newark has a 92% average load factor! The BHX summer timetable indicates this service will be operated by B767-200 as well. With this upgrade and the return of American on April 2nd, Birmingham is getting back to it’s pre September 11th norm.
RE: Airport pic of the day 20/03
It’s Lagos Airport, Nigeria. Am I right?
RE: Joke of the day
The only one I can think of relates to the flight code for Ryanair, FR = F**king Rubbish. I’ve known a few travel agents to use that one…
RE: What a shot!
Great pic – Don’t you think the new bigger powerplants on the -600 make the A340 as a whole look more erm, beefier? It’s a nice looking plane.
RE: So, you all like quizes??
You’re quite correct. Sorry! I was actually meaning to type Jetset, but for some reason I entered a different call sign! Never mind, these things happen!

RE: What is Air 2000 like to fly?
When Air 2000 was launched in 1987, they set the standard for other British charter airlines to follow. The standard of service offered was far superior to the likes of Britannia, Orion and Dan-Air. The only other airline which fared well against the new Manchester based airline was Air Europe.
As the years passed, the other carriers improved their level of service so they could compete better. The real winner in all this rivalry was the passenger – Joe public was getting starting to get a level of service that one would only expect on a scheduled carrier. The only big drawback to all this was the seat pitch, which due to the nature of tour operators and their bums on seats policy, was still very cramped. 231 seats on a Boeing 757 – not nice on a long flight which is packed.
Many charter airlines have come and gone since Air 2000 commenced operations, the most notable casualty was Air Europe in 1991. However, Air 2000 has survived and what was once a fledgling airline is now a major force in the UK holiday airline market. They still offer a high standard of service and are usually a very reliable carrier. They do have a good reputation, unlike some I could mention.
Their Boeing 757 fleet is a mixed bag of old and new aircraft, though the good news is that the older ex Eastern examples are being replaced by factory fresh models, straight from the Renton production line. The A320/321 fleet is still young (less than ten years old) and the same goes for the 767-300. Two of the 767’s were inherited from Leisure Internationl Airways when this carrier was absorbed into Air 2000.
All in all, it is rare to have a a bad flight with Air 2000. I’ve flown with them twice now, and was totally satisfied. Have a good flight!

RE: 1,000 post special-MUSIC(off topic)
I agree with you Saab – Ian Van Dahl is probably awful when heard live. It’s amazing what a recording studio can do to make someone sound good though, what with all those fancy effects they use. So we’ll say Ian Van Dahl = Awful when heard live, quite good when listening to the CD which was recorded in a studio.
RE: 1,000 post special-MUSIC(off topic)
I like trance – I’m a big fan of German DJ Paul van Dyk – For an Angel is his best tune. Gueryella is another classic trance tune, along with Ayla and Three Drives by Greece 2000. As for more recent stuff, ReSurrection by Russia’s PPK is a great track, and I also like ‘Will I’ by Ian Van Dahl (though I’d class Ian Van Dahl verging on the more ‘commercial’ side of dance).
RE: Airport pic of the day-13/03/02
Nice photo – I assume noise restrictions are quite lax at this airport compared to airfields in Western Europe and the US!!
RE: Pic from Down Under 18/03/02
Nice pics – I think the 737 looks quite good in the Qantas livery.

RE: Pic Of The Day-18/03/02!!
The clarity of that photograph is excellent – It really shows the immense bulk of the 747. Great shot.
