RE: Aviation related films?
The a/c used in Castaway is an MD-11 – though you’ll see Tom Hanks walking towards and A300 at the airport. You’ll see the centre engine of the MD-11 explode in the water after the plane has crashed, you can also make out the big winglets as the a/c is sinking.
RE: Latest news for the British Airways fleet
AndrewM – G-BIKY is being retired from BA service and will be converted into a freigher for DHL. It’s passenger carrying days are almost over…
RE: Aviation related films?
Almost forgot – I’ve seen the Langoliers and I quite enjoyed it. The airport used in the film was Bangor, Maine USA. The ending scene with the L-1011 taking off and the airport being eaten is totally weird!!
RE: Aviation related films?
What about Passenger 57, starring Wesley Snipes? It’s a load of crap, but there are some good shots of the L-1011!!!
RE: 1,000 posts special-Where are you all from?
I live in Birmingham, England. Birmingham International Airport is approx 1.5/2 miles from where I live and I get a good view of aircraft departing from runway 33….Lovely stuff…
RE: Airline television advertisments
Here in sunny central England, we keep seeing adverts by Emirates, Gulf Air, Virgin and BMI. BA also showed a few TV ads during the past month or so.
RE: Ja Worsley ows us a trip on Concorde!
Unless he is also known as Bill Gates, I doubt if we’ll be flying supersonic…..
RE: A320 information!
Indian Airlines A320’s are powered by IAE V2500 powerplants, and the carrier was an early customer for the A320. The oldest examples were delivered in the late 1980’s and one example was totally destroyed in a landing accident early in the career of the A320.
Indian Airlines examples also use the double bogey main landing gear (like you see on the larger jets such as 757/767/A300/A310 etc) and I think they might be the only carrier that use this type of landing gear on the A320.
Not sure about the Air India A300’s though…..

RE: Airport pic of the day-07/03/02
And they say Kai Tak was difficult…..
RE: Pic Of The Day – B747 at its best!
If you wanted to see some scary landings at Kai Tak, then Alitalia would take 1st prize. Some of their MD-11’s were well below the glide slope on final approach, and they often used to touch down before the official landing area.
Spectacular photographs of the 747 by the way.

RE: what aircraft am I flying on?!
The DC-10’s used on the US routes were the -30 srs, I was talking about the -10srs not having the range – AIH have (or did have) the -10 srs in their fleet. An easy way to ID a DC-10-10 is due to the fac t that they don’t have the main centre landing gear bogey, which is a feature of the 30 srs.
The AIH A330-200’s have PTV’s on all seats too, which is a bonus.
RE: what aircraft am I flying on?!
You’ll be on one of their A330-200 aircraft. The DC-10’s are really now only used as back-up aircraft, and the DC-10 10srs in their fleet won’t have the range anyway.
RE: Ryanair? No chance!
As for the 737, well I look at it like this – If airliners were cars, then the 737 would be a Ford Mondeo or Vauxhall Vectra. The 747 would be a BMW 7 Series, and Concorde would be a Ferrari…
RE: Ryanair? No chance!
I’m glad Liverpool is getting these services – If we left it up to BA, then the smaller airports would never get a look in. The Merseyside airport generates a good number of passengers for EZY, and I’m told carries more PAX on the Amsterdam flights than MAN (which is flown by BA and KLM uk).
Even the neglected East Midlands Airport is getting low cost carriers – Go and BMIbaby – About time too!
RE: A pic from down under!
By the way, QF still have a small number of 747SP’s, but they are retiring them soon (if not already).
