JonH, You are already a “superstar” in my eyes ! I only have to think the words Britannia And Prince an your name comes to mind ! But enough of the praise, You prove my comments in my last post about timing and looking to the future do work, I have noted the interest in both projects within this forum, and take much pleasure from it ! Yes the interweb thing makes access to so much, so much easier, and instant (well if you know where to look).
With increasing age, it is remarkable to realise aircraft that I easily remember flying in my youth are now museum pieces ! Thanks for that ! haha, Keith.
TwinOtter23, Thank you for that explanation, very good, I have a better understanding.
As a small aside, I often think about my particular interest, post war civil airliners, and the fact that a few have “slipped through the preservation net”, whilst I would be the first to agree that not everything can, or will, be saved for the future, do you good people, in museums, look into those aircraft that are going out of service at the moment, both civil and military, and consider whether to invest in an exanple now, rather than leave it untill they become rare or virtually unobtainable, and by then very expensive ?
The more I think about these things, the more I can see how difficult your jobs are ! Oh for a view into the future ! Keith.
As a complete “outsider” I am interested in a brief (in laymans terms) idea of how museum exhibits are sorted into the three catagories ….. Benchmark …. Significant …… Noteworthy ….. ? Maybe an example of each would help, Who carries out this, one person, a commitee, you good people who are involved ? Are any parts of this document available “on line” for those of us out here to see ? Does it take into account the numbers of aircraft, in that category, remaining in the UK or worldwide ?
Can I assume if you have a good example of the only existing airframe in the world, it is “rated” higher than a good example of an airframe which is one of dozens ? Please keep it simple ! Keith.
pagen01, In answer to your question, “how did it get here” dh drover c/n 5014 VH-EAS or VH-EAZ, was “shipped” to the UK.
The registration on it, VH-FDT, is false, it belongs to c/n 5011.
“Shipped” to UK 1959.
15-12-59 registered G-APXX.
No recorded flights in UK.
1960 to Air Navigation & Trading Co.
1967 to Southend Museum.
1983 to Doug Arnold.
1987 to Blackbushe.
1996 to Lasham SWWAPS.
2008 looking a bit sad ?
2009 Who knows ?
Keith.
Thats made my day ! Thank you AA, nice to see a Super G, maybe she has no more than flat tyres ? Can remember seeing those at LAP (LHR to the newbies) in the 50’s and 60’s carrying the baggage they could’nt get into the caravelles ? Keith.
Bruce, Absolutely, positively yes to that , would love to have a look at the old girl, and I live in ” A Fine City” Keith.
David, have just done the search, as mentioned in your thread, can’t find it ? come on tell me ? if it’s VH-EAS, it’s the same aircraft ! please don’t tease me.
Bruce, I will offer you all of my (physical) support, and time, in this should something come of it ! Keith.
Talking of drover, earlier I asked for a photo of this lovely aircraft, Newforest came up with a link, which was good, but he questioned the windows ? I have been trawling for hours and cannot find another drover with that window configuration ? I later stumbled upon a photo of the other side of the same aircraft ! it seems this particular is more unique than just the only one in the northern hemesphere, but maybe the only one with this mod ? compare my pics of port and starbourd and, please give me an answer ! Keith.
Quote from the list ” Jetran B727-100 ” static, is that Boeing 727-100 ? old or what ? whats that all about ? Keith.
Is there a Dh drover there or am I dreaming ? If so has anybody got a photo they could post, would love to see one ! Keith.
Cees, you promised the next set of Hastings wings would go onto the Hermes at Duxford !** 🙂
Thank you for that input Jur & John (sounds like a double act) haha, will pop down the road at the soonest, assuming they have one, will play with it ?
Nice thing about warehouse express being local, can take my camera, borrow some of their demo lens, pop out, take a few shots, save them in camera and play on the pc with the results ! how nice is that ? keith.
Second photo is Wendling, Norfolk ! Keith.
Thank you for that link WIEESSO, I think I will continue remembering these as lovely girls at Stansted in the early 60’s.
David Burke, Yes very true and very wise words indeed, in my opinion. Keith.
