Nice links Newforest, But excuse me, did it say in one of those ” jet aviation preservation” ??????????????? Once again I beg to differ ! with whomever entered that quote ! Question 1, Why do people obtain these aircraft, to put them in a compound to rot ? Question 2, Is it ultimately for the scrap value of such ? Question 3, Do these people not know that some parts of the world are screaming out to have these things ! Which in my opinion makes them an asset not a liability ! Please tell me have I got it all wrong ! or am I mad ?

Martin, Sorry to butt in, but I imagine Bruce is as horrified at that sight as I am, the dove is ex CAFU (civil aviation flying unit) ex Stansted ! no idea of individual identity, but needs loads of TLC ! I assume other people have other views ? Keith.

Incoming !!! Wow, yes that worked, would like to place them across the page, but that can wait for now.
My request is :- Recently purchased, in Dubai, a Nikon D40X complete with all the bits and pieces necessary to get going, this kit included the standard lens “18 – 55 f 1.35 – 5.6 G11 AF-S ED” plus apparently “thrown in” free, a
    lens “70 – 300 1:4 – 5.6G” this later lens I understand is manual focus only,
the standard lens has the SWM motor built in, therefore autofocus.
So far I have played with the thing as “point and shoot” only (must stress this is my first digital and my first slr ! ).
This year I would like to shoot some flying aircraft etc, and am assuming I will need a better lens ? will also look forward to playing with all the other settings available to me ! and hopefully learn something ?
I have looked at the following :-
    Nikon 55 – 200 f 4 – 5.6 AF-S VR DX. (£179)
    Sigma 18 – 200 f 3.6 – 6.3 DC OS HSM (£299) recently launched
One advantage I have is the “express warehouse” is local, and they have a showroom where I can have a go !
Am I on completely the wrong tracks ? Your advice will be welcomed. Keith.

Yes excellent news ! Have seen things “elsewhere” about this, so much has been lost in the past, hopefully preserving this unique aircraft is just the start of a new awakening, for my children and their children etc etc ! Keith.

I would imagine your specification folder was produced to be handed to potential purchasers, as you know untill the aircraft went into service, there would be few other ways for the manufacturer to “sell” the product.
Love the word “roneoed” (unfortunately I to remember it well). Keith

Arnold10 come on in, these people don’t bite, they argue and bicker, but they don’t bite. I have no idea what this may be from ! But whats the aircraft on the montage behind ? Keith

Mine is easy ! Would just love to do avery long distance trip in a 4 x piston engined airliner, but this must include at least one overnight stop somewhere, not much to ask is it ?

Even more detail ! It’s amazing what we all carry in the depths of memory ? I think Freddie Laker was a “bit of a lad” Often wondered what sort of airline would have sprung up if he and a certain T. D .Keegan were in cahoots at that time ? Early british civil aviation would’t have been so interesting without these characters ! HP81, I was not doubting your previous last flight details, guess as a positioning flight it would not be as well recorded. Must have been the “last move” of the very lucrative MOD cargo flights ?
The thoughts on Russian radar etc are interesting, thank you.
Are there still people at STN who remember these days……… spooky ! Keith.

Answers to questions raised. BSAA1947, thank you for your reply, I really have no idea of this persons name ? IIRC at that time I was 10 ish and would think he was in his early twentys, which of course would make him in the early seventys now ? Two things keep coming to mind, firstly I think he may have used specs, and secondly, for some reason, I think he was from Cambridge and rode a vespa scooter ? Today I have found another tudor pic, the origin of which, I also have no idea ! I really wish now that my pocket money from those days was spent on a camera ! most of this is from my memories and they are defragmenting rapidly !
HP81. Thank you too for your input, most appreciated. The side of STN where skyways, aviation traders, etc were in those days resembled a scrap yard ! but they still kept a few flying somehow ? According to my “bible” “British Independant Airlines since 1946” the last tudor flight was from Lisbon to Stansted, G-AHNL touched down @ 14..41 on 16 June 1959 flown by Captain Alfred of Air Charter ! The hangar which I now know is H4 was one of the busiest in the late 50’s and early 60’s, being used by Air Charters 2 brittanias on trooping flights, then when they became merged into British United Airways brittanias from Hunting Clan often appeared as well.
Oh dear I could talk for hours about this, but must do some work soon. Once again thanks to all for your help. Keith.

BSAA1947. I imagine you have seen this in the past ?
