Sorry that I should come back so soon, but I have just read, and reread the post, earlier, by alertken, and yes I think I agree with your drift kind sir ! you are obviously in touch with the political side of things so much more than I. Keith.
Hello again, and thank you all for your amazing responce ! I am staggered ! Firstly I must say all of this is somewhat stretching my memory ? it’s 50 years ago ! wow ! I have been searching all evening for info on this thread, limited though it may be ……… It seems most of the remaining tudor fleet were bought up by aviation traders, after it was formerly announced by government that they were “not fit” for transporting passengers ! following Bermuda et al ! converted to freighters, including the ” super trader ” , some were used very effectivly on the berlin airlift.
In answer to HP81’s question, I don’t know ? but see my plan of airport, in which I have added the red detail, I think hanger 1 was as marked ? If I remember correctly these photos were taken at the side of the first two of my marked aviation traders hangers, but I stand to be corrected on any or all of this ! I also (hopefully) include another photo from, I think, the same period of a Tudor 5 looking majestic before it’s demise above assorted prentice’s (or should that be prenti ?) at the same location.
I have also found a potted history of STN, for those who may be interested at ……

As I said earlier I would love my memory to be challenged on any, or, all of this !.

This one makes me want to cry ?

Thank you very much for your input, D E for the history, and pics. J C .
fascinating forum link.
I suppose the poor old girls were playing a major part in getting us where we are now, problems with fin area, wing roots and very early pressurisation, constant intervention by authority could not have helped ! I am sure I have other pics from this era but can’t find them at the moment. Thanks again. Keith.
Brilliant Pics PJ ! Just a little of the worlds aviation history. Just a little of the UK’s aviation history. But a big part of Norfolks aviation history ! Keith.
Oh ok ? Sorry but I am completely out of my depth here ! I know more about neuclear physics than I do about hurricanes ?????? Keith !
[QUOTE=HP81;1201906]If you can’t trust a museum to look after artifacts who can you trust?
With you all the way on that one ! what a waste of history, our history ! If it were a spitfire ! i think a lot more would be said ! (expect flack for that comment) Keith.
Please excuse my ignorance, but is this the “plastic” hurricane mentioned ?

Came past Duxford yesterday from the M25 and noticed that a Spitfire is now resident on the gate. The Hurricane had been missing for a while and I wondered why it was moved.
Can anyone give an indication if this Spitfire is a restoration or composite?
Never got a chance to see the markings as it is facing directly onto the road. What happened to the Hurricane, has this a dry warm home in the hanger?
Thanks.
Brian.
When I was there a month ago there was a “plastic” spitfire outside between the hangers coded DU__X ? may be this one ? Keith.
Hopefully before it gets locked ! Today, talking casualy with a colleage about things spitfire at work, I asked if he had seen anymore of it at Norwich, his instant reply was “oh didn’t you know it’s gone to CONINGSBY for some work to be done”. Whether this is good gen or duff gen I don’t know ? I would rather not get involved with the politics and personalities involved here ! so will let you nice people think about this. Keith.
And I thought you were realy old and clever ! But you are realy young and clever !
Thank you for that, wish you hadn’t realy, I can hardly see for tears now ! haha, how can you “lose” something like that ? if only we could “cut and paste” aircraft parts ? Keith.
Mildenhall, I think it may have been 1985 ish, 7 Fiat G91Rs of Frecce Tricolori took off, did their display, no problem !, we noticed only six landed ? nothing was mention on PA ! all continued. Read about it in paper next day. IIRC pilot was killed. RIP. Keith.
I feel competition coming on here ? 11min 14 sec and 17 min 23 sec ! excellent pastime, thanks for that. emailed to others with too much time on their hands ! Keith.
For a view of the very aircraft ( I think ? ) in better days try this link :-
Nice one, Mark was also almost correct, Avro 688 Tudor 8, later became Avro 689 Tudor 9 which was renamed Ashton !
