With out giving too much away, how about the scene when the lead character pulls out his revolver. Remember the scene when Indy shoots the guy twirling the swords. I think Harrison Ford had a bad case of the runs, and he didn’t have the energy for a long scene !
gotcha.. π
I think you mean “Hollywood” or cinema style.
Most films have elements of unbelievability to them…witness James Bond epics, European surrealist “art” films, or Indian musicals π .
If it was Indian Style (read bollywood style). The lead character would have landed his aircraft in the trenches, grabbed the nearest machine gun , killed all the 200,000 german soldiers without reloading the gun and then have rescued his friend. :diablo: :diablo:

Watch out for the clip lifted from one of the Indiana Jones movie. You will recognise it when you see it. or
I missed that – which clip was it?
Loved the movie – the CG was great – some of the shots will make you cringe, like the pilot whose aircraft catches fire – he had no choice but to pull his revolver out for the ‘short way out’.
The scenes where oppsoing pilots in a chukker look at each other was chilling as well – gives you a straight feel of how things were at that time.
Some scenes in true american style were unbelievable – like the guy who lands in the trenches to try and rescue his friend.

Those reports appear to be nearly 4 years old, don’t you think things may have moved on since then and have been sorted out ?????
The first report in the first post of this thread is more recent. 5th May 2006 to be exact and it clearly states
The local police, after conducting a fruitless investigation for three years, wrote to the Director-General and Inspector-General of Police in April last year requesting him to hand over the case either to the Corps of Detectives (CoD) or the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Official sources told The Hindu here on Thursday that the case was handed over to the CoD three months ago.
if at all, it seems to have graduated from the local police to a central level case.

Be very aware of what you are insinuating, this subject was brought up on this forum nearly 12 months ago and resulted in a threat of legal action and one forum member (moderator) receiving a lifeβs ban from the forum for posting accusations of wrong doings.
EN830 –
I am merely reporting what is given i nthe press. Whoever it is giving out threats of legal action may contact the news paper that I quoted above..
and the ones featured on this page

the last of the reports (and the one i linked in the first post) clearly states that there is an open police case on this. What is there for me to insinuate?
For a similiar experience read the book about the protracted recovery of Peter Vachers Hurricane from India. It highlights the multiple layers of Red Tape which can be as tricky as hacking thru a rain forest. Certain sections of the Indian press do not appear to be very accurate either but that can happen anywhere…even on this forum!
The difference is that Peter Vacher seems to have got his paperwork right. And there are no police/legal cases on that export.
The same cannot be said of the Bf109 because the police case is still ‘open’
That could be further evidence, perhaps, that the aircraft exploded after DB baled out and might help explain why it cannot now be found.
Even if it exploded, wouldnt something like the engine and wings make it to the ground as a relatively large piece?
It did not need to be excavted and once it was they created a problem for any local SMR or museum which was probably already stretched for storage space and unable to handle huge heavy pieces of metal.
Yeah but are you sure it was going to a ‘local’ museum?
Try searching it on G-INFO for G-CDTI
Dirty linen? not entirely.
this thread gives a number of insights that i have benefitted from – especially on how to deal with stories that might be embarassing to living veterans or their families. – I had wondered about such things time to time. Thanks to both the authors for sharing the disucssion here
There are other issues here that one can learn, on expeditions, wreckrecovery, though there is little about the final program. theother issues on this thread are great.
Could be waiting to be found fella- after all a Hurricane and Me109 have been discovered in recent years –

if i may add – both in India…
Warbird longevity in India was much assured – due to the IAF’s preservation policy and maintainence of decoys.
But in Pakistan, the survivability of the warbirds from early 50s has been bad if not worse. Tempests, Furies, Attackers, Halifaxes – not one example of any of them survive. somebody made good money scrapping them :D.
I dont think there is any Tempest airframe that I know in India other than the one in the Museum. Certainly none exist at Pune.
Yes I believe that the residue of the Tempests were scrapped off as uneconomic to transport/restore/trade
Mark
Were they scrapped in India itself? or Transported to UK and then scrapped.?
Ah… the first Wapiti outside of India.. worth waiting for π
