Ian,
The last Gnats (Mk2s known as Ajeets) were phased out in 1991. They were inducted first in 1957 along with the Hunter and Canberra. The Hunters were phased out in 2001. The Canberra is the sole type from that year now flying.

Ian ,
You are correct – Escape or Die it is. Mc Cormacks story was incredible – and what he went thru till the time he was rescued was amazing stuff.
I remember Brickhill used only an edited excerpt from a larger book that was in planning. Subsequently I got the Mc Cormacks story in the unabridged version.

In the Hurricane pictures
I can see three main types of parts that make up the fuselage.
One is the main tubular section.
Second are the vertical fuselage cross section members – are they wooden?
Third are the fuselage stringers that connect the vertical fuselage cross section parts. I am assuming they are wooden too.
Seems to me that there is a high content of wood craftsmanship in a hurricane
One of his lesser known books I think was a book on RAF Escape stories from all regions. I cant remember the title off hand – but it was one hell of a read.
and this one? 😀
Corrosion would be minimal, but I think the Meteorite damage would have been substantial – there is not atmosphere, so I am sure that thing is being hit by 1000s of tiny dust sized meteorites every day and putting holes in it. So no thanks I will not put my money on this expedition. 😀
Thanks Mark – got to admit, the ac looks nice. like a large oversized fighter (ala Mosquito, Beaufighter etc)
ok, whats the story on this aircraft?
Blenheim Mk1 prototype or that predecessor that paperwallah got built privately, or a Mk1 with inline engines.
T-28 Trojan?
Now has anyone heard about the Mustangs [sic] in a hangar/shed??? in Northern India?? People from Oz went looking a few years ago and it is said they saw them but could not do a deal as the “owner” was a f#$&*…
Err.. you mean those crated spitfires ..dont you? 😉 :diablo:
Here’s another captured Stinger. No Anzas were found this side of the border.
The MiG-21M fin in the picture is commonly misidentified in Pakistani pubications as a MiG-27.
Arshad,
Only the MiG-21 is lost to a MANPAD . The MiG-27 was lost to a flame out.
There is a first person account of the MiG-27 pilot on BR, he also does not mention any missile hit.
The clincher in my opinion is that even PAFCombat.com , a pakistani website maintained by a serving PAF Air Commodore (who incidentally is said to be commanding Mauripur, the largest airbase in the south) says that the MiG-27 was lost to a flame out.
