Later on, in 1954 the aircraft were transferred to long-term storage, from where they were disposed of as salvage. It’s a pity that when Pakistan Air Force inaugurated its Museum at Karachi, not a single component of the Halifax bomber was available for display or record.

Look at the spokes ! Look at the spokes!
Guys,
found that Wapiti picture with ‘Spoked’ wheels – This is from the tabloid sized ‘Aviation News’ There is no date but the reading the news material i put the time frame of the issue I have as 1972-73. Note the Wapiti wheels which appeared to be the vintage car variety. The newspaper too has made the same quote!
The pic makes a nice study with Kabirs Current pic. What i notice is the full rudder length fin flash and painting of the serial on the rudder/fin. (more accurate?)
I wonder where those spoked wheels went and how the current set came! My vote goes to the Hindustan Motor’s Ambassador Car

Great Pictures
Great Pictures Kabir – Lovely composition and detail.
Arthur, In addition to the general display area, the IAF Museum has a restricted access display area where they have a Harvard, Spit VIII, Vampire FB52 , Tigermoth among other things. Though not flown, they are maintained at high standard. Some of the aircraft in the General display area – Like the Marut are also said to be maintained in ‘serviceable’ condition. Interpret it as you may.
Macky,
I vaguely recall seeing spoked wheels on it long time back (or maybe in some picture). But then I must have imagined them 😀

The A-10 Thunderbolt II has got the looks .
RE: Gun camera
Flying a hunter at 500 feet, you are behind a Sabre, you are a rookie with less than 150 hours on the Hunter ,and NEVER fired your guns at all , even in peace time..what do you do?
Fly so close to the Sabre, that you just cant miss!

RE: Breaking News on Kabir
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-04-02 AT 03:43Â PM (GMT)]I am surprised that they arrested and had a trial against Kabir! A Friend of mine was caught taking pictures at Lohegaon (Now it does not get more serious than that! what with MiG-29s, Su-30s, Jag IMs and other flying from there). He was let off after an interogation that lasted atleast 5 hours. Ofcourse the IAF was dealing with him then. This could be the AAI (Airports Authority of India). After that incident all of us learnt our lessons (Me being the initator of that particular photo expediition).
When in india, the rule is clear – Keep a wide berth at the airports. NO FLASHING YOUR CAMERAS!
