Expectations of expansion and improved facilities is not likely to be the policy of the next few years
But this in itself is only your best supposition….ie; you don’t actually know, it’s only your guess work………….or do you actually know different, you seem to be debating in an almost authortative tone so that you’d have us believe your argument was actualy correct?
unless anyone has evidence to the contrary?
Funny you should ask!!!
Only last weekend, in talking to a number of the different staff there, it seems that the museum has big progress ambitions in their sights, exactly opposed to what you are stating.
I did not ask for timescales etc, but they are planning on building what sounded like a very large building immediately in front of the existing main museum facade on the grassy area.
I was told that they are already trying to secure funding for the project.
This was much to the consternation of some of the staff who I gleaned from my conversations, would seem to like someone outside of the museum, to take it on board to object on planning grounds, on the basis that this well known and established view of the facade, should itself be protected from obstruction and this seems fair comment.
One indicated that the size of the building was so big that it sounded far bigger than it ought to be, whilst another indicated that the existing BofB museum would be demolished to help make way for the new building.
Now it may be probable that there are exaggerations about exatcly what is happening, but the discussions very magmanomously told me that this is the next direction for the museum.
Oh and don’t forget, the old watch tower is due for relocation next to the GWH in due course.
It looks like the ground is being prepared for it now.
I understand this move is being largely funded by the developer of the area, but it does demonstrate that there is still a commitment from the museum for improvements and expansion that you intimate is not a policy of the museum for the forseeable future.

On a purely cynical slant, perhaps it’s getting to be a bit of a case that with EASA’s grip on the civil aviation world in an ever expanding EU over individual state authorities which then in turn just become local offices of EASA by some kind of default, which could also mean less bums on CAA seats, that the CAA ensure that differences are maintained in whatever manner they can create to justify it’s own existance.
Just a potential theory :diablo:

Ship itself is a reference word for both.
Craft is another.
Lindy’s Lad made reference with Keel & Beam, but the keel is the theoretical bottom spine of the water going vessel whereas beam refers to ‘something’ else on a level to either the port or starboard quarters and generally distant (near or far), from either an aircraft or ship… not near the bottom of an aircraft.
I would suspect turret is a reference far older than used in context for either ships or aircraft are concerned, as turrets are constructed on castles and stately homes and the like etc etc, so turret may have more in common with the fact that they generally contain weapons and the like.
A lot of aeroplanes land at airPORTS and so port also applies.
Planes generally fly towards ‘headings’

Oh and Sally has a B17G chin turret – the Belle was an F – no forward facing guns – which is why she was so famous as having finished a tour…
?????????
She was the first to complete 25 missions and then fly back to the states…..she was not the first to fly 25 missions!
That honour I believe goes to Hells Angels of the 303rd.

R4118: Did anyone get any images of Lil Margret arriving at ARCo yesterday/day before?
Black Knight: Anyone snap Lil Margaret’s arrival?
“Lil Margaret” has been with ARCO at least since before the 17th June!!!
L4x2: in further response to your observation, Sally B has appeared in many films and TV programmes including “War and Remembrance”, “Black Book”, “Over Here” and Bomber Crew amongst them!
I seem to remember that another, Canberra was lost from Wyton on a nearby farm during the 90’s?
Excellent news with congratulations to the team.
Its’ also the date when a certain USAAF bomber, whose name is known to many, completed her 25th and final combat Mission.
The CAA have never outright said no to a flying Shackleton (though BAE tried hard to make it so.)
This seems to have been accepted, and I got a rather pleasant response from the CAA and the Shackleton got added to the list of types eligible for a permit to fly.
The upcoming NDT may show up issues caused by how long 963 has been sat outside, and render the remaining spar life unusable – so its by no means a done deal.
Having paid a visit to see her recently on a ‘running’ day and seen all the hard work being put into this lovely aircraft by a good group of people, I really hope that it all comes good and that the NDT shows good results.
Back on track, I look forward to “Doc” taking to the air very soon and wonder how long it will be after that, before she is joined in the air by “Fifi”? Now that’s another interesting proposition!
Too bad someone in the UK (aside from Just Jane) is working on a project to return a large multi to flight.
Have you forgotten the Coventry Avro Shackleton WR963 then?
Look away if you are getting tired of Sharkmouth Mustang pics!
Don’t think so!
How spooky is this, I just tapped into this thread and lo and behold, an edition of “Coast” has not long started and guess what they are looking into?
These hovercraft and are even riding in a smaller one to go across the channel from Dover, but have now just turned back because it was a bit too rough!
Some lovely footage shown.
Hi Bomberboy,
You’re absolutely right – sadly the previous memorial was stolen 10 years or so ago hence the security fence round the present one.
Thanks Mothminor.
Sometimes you remember things, but have nothing to show what you mean and so you start to think, have I dreamped it up?
FFS though, what is it with people?
Stealing a memorial!
Sadly it is not the first and no one can say it will be the last, as there are and always will be, people with out any sense of honour or scruples other than when it is directly in front of their own ‘bubble’, yet they’ll be the first to shout when something of ‘theirs’ is compromised and defaced.
Got quite a surprise recently when we found the place we had booked into for a family occasion was beside a pub used by 303 Squadron personnel while at Northolt! The Orchard in Ruislip. Nice little memorial in the garden and a framed, signed painting indoors.
As a regular haunt of mine in the late 70’s/early 80’s, there used to be a different memorial there. I’m sure it used to be much smaller and was ‘polished metal’, but it was still mounted up in the air.
I certainly don’t remember it having some kind of fencing around it!
