Is the Hawker Hurricane a combat aircraft?
Are you serious………Er yeah, it is very much a combat aircraft!!!!
Thanks for that NX.
With what you have said, it does seem to present you all with a bit of problem and if things are not forthcoming, it may very well be the case that the props already fitted are the only option available. That said if they are deemed not fit for overhaul, then quite simply this could present them with a show stopper????
Any option would involve a very costly full overhaul anyway.
Do log books exist for the props already?
How many do BBMF have?
Maybe a sawp for the DAS York props (provided they are suitable for both type and condition) might be another avenue to consider for overhauling????
WRT the CAD drawings you need, are there drawings already existing, but need to be drawn up on CAD, or are they to be ‘from scratch’ drawings?
If it’s the former, I may be able to help, but I need to ask someone first.
Just out of interest, are there problems with the existing ones?
Also, once you have amassed all the bits you are seeking, what is the plan for them all then?
Props normally have their own log book as a serialled assembly, not a collection of prop bits put together?
I say this assuming that these would be intended for use for flying, or would the props already fitted, be overhaulled as serialled assemblies, again assuming that they are themselves serialled assemblies in the first place?
I’ll jump in here and wish everybody a happy new year too.
and hope all your dreams come true in 2013.:D
I’d be quite happy if just some of them were to come true in 2013.

What bugs me is the costs that grounded Pink Lady and plague Sally B – what will make her any different? Albeit she is part of a purpose built attraction…
That is a good point.
Also, as has already been pointed out, PA474 does indeed have a very busy schedule, because she is after all operated by our glorious RAF, but perhaps more importantly, as she is paid for by the tax payer, I believe she comes very very cheaply for airshow organisers etc, whereas a private operator would likely have to charge a significant amount for an appearance?
I’m sure the bulk of organisers of the many smaller flypasts that 474 does for all sorts of events, (big shows not necessarily included here), would not even consider using a similar ‘alternative’ performer that would have to charge a large performance fee, in the first place.
regarding the CAA’s involvement I was very fortunate to be a part of a small group who had a visit to Just Jane a couple of years ago which included being on board when the engines were run up, and we talked about the potential to fly then. The chief engineer said that they had had a very encouraging response from the CAA so I guess they have been involved from the start?
That may have been the fact then, but I suspect/believe that there are some changes looming for all operators which could make this a lot more difficult.
Perhaps someone else can add a little more ‘meat’ here?
I suspect Mike may know a bit about how UK residents feel about their heritage and particularly their armed forces heritage, whilst he may currently be in the US I strongly suspect this may not always have been the case.
I believe you are very very strongly correct with this statement.
That looks fantasic.
I seem to remember a combined Hurricane/Spitfire display at Biggin a couple of years back where there were more hurricanes in the display than there were spits! 4 vs 3.
That alone made me smile.
As for colour schemes, how fantastic would she look in coastal Command colours?
I’d love to see that!
I live right beside Rosyth Dockyards and can see the massive hulk taking shape from my bedroom window.
You are a lucky chap.
Maybe I should go snap some photos for you lot 🙂
Oohhh yes please sir!
Back in the mid 70’s there was either a Cessna 152 or 172 always to be seen hangared in an open ended semi circular hangar adjacent to the A40. I have long since lost my spotters logs from all those years ago, anyone know the ID?
Ohh yeah, I remember seeing that in the ‘blister’ towards the Master Brewer end of the base. I very rarely seem to remember it not being there.
I can agree with some of the sentiments posted, but the difference between a housing development and a wind farm is that you can’t see a housing development from many miles away.
I’m sure that many people could not have failed to notice some of the Duxford pictures that have been posted this year and although they are several miles away, the new wind farm turbines near Balsham are clearly seen.
Much of the Clyde Valley Tourist route in Scotland is swamped with these things on the hills to the degree i now clearly think of what should be a beautiful part of the world as Telly-Tubby land.
It’s such a shame.
Those shots of the Phantom remind me of the evening when I was chugging back to Nuthampstead in the faithful Airtourer, when I became aware of something off my port wingtip. A quick glance revealed an A-10 keeping station at around 100 kts and pointing past me to the right and guess what, his wingman was on the starboard wingtip. I’ve never been so surprised in my life and I was quite relieved when they peeled off and headed back to Alconbury I assume. Unfortunately this was before I had a phone with a camera on it but I still have the image imprinted on my mind’s eye and I always keep the scan going when I fly.
Somewhere I do have a photo I took, of a couple of A-10’s that came alongside off the port wing of the aircraft I was flying in over 20 years ago.
That’s better than a first class job!
Can’t wait to see it finished.
Hopefully, you’ll get the remaining bits that you need to complete it soon then. 😉
Did you say “guilty” or “quilty”…:D
Sorry, not able to ‘reader’ your post correctly’.
I know, not the best pun in the world.
