TVOC had eight bagged and tagged zero timed engines for XH558.
Of the four that were originally put into the aircraft during the major, two were removed on advice from Rolls Royce for precautionary reasons and replaced, and two of the original remain in the aircraft.

They still have two bagged zero timed engines to use but it’s still publicly unknown whether the two that were removed will be allowed back into service at a future date.

If they do have to change two this time round, it will of course mean that they would currently have no airworthy spares, meaning they could not afford a single further engine failure or it’s game over!
Unless of course if either of the originally removed two units were given the all clear and fit for flight label or, and this would be equally preferable, that RR decided that they would carry out overhauls for them.

I don’t think there’s any way to overhaul the Olympus now, at least not without it being prohibitively expensive.

AFAIK, your Vulcan man Pleming stated at a meeting I attended, that RR told them they would not be carrying out any overhauls!

Can you upload that picture you took of the air to air?

Unfortunately, I am not able to do that with my work system. there are many things that it won’t allow me to connect to.
Mike J, perhaps you could help me out here?

So IINM, if they have lost two now with the two that have previously had to be changed, does this not mean they will have no spare engines left after this swap out?
If they don’t then all’s well and good.

Indeed some of them are a bit aged, some of them are a bit younger, but they are also have a few of the new Dreamliners on order.
I’m not sure when they expect to start to take delivery, but they have already had Boeing staff over going through certain aspects of the new craft.
    Where are you flying from?

Thanks for the heads up Peter. Can you confirm if the tower museum is open, as on the website it says its closed on the Sunday due to the event?

That is correct. The tower museum will not be open over the weekend.
Some of the weekends participants have just started to be let in as I am typing these words and no i’m not at Bassingbourn, I just happen to know.

The piece in the third pic could be a tank strap

    See my post #10.

or maybe even the attachment bracket for an aircrewmans shoulder straps to a bulkhead or similar strongpoint.
    Anon.

    It’s deffo not the latter.

I Like your mic call though and if it’s not that then it’s a headset jack plug.

If those pieces were for a Spitfire or Mustang, you’d have enough for a rebuild. 🙂
