It is indeed a big aeroplane! The Stirling cockpit that I am loosly assisting to recreate will practically be the size of a Routemaster bus when finished! 😀

I would really love to be able to see a Stirling in all it’s physical glory, just to see its sheer size. 😮

Ive been trying to find some pictures of the inside of the nissen hut they used for the briefing in the film as it is one of the buildings i look after at work.

So you’ll be aware of the event there this Saturday then?

I saw last year the top of the new tower they built ,.

It didn’t stay up for long by all accounts!

The ops board from inside it and a wooden willys jeep they made as they are still local to Binbrook.

Someone got some nice memorabilia then?

I have seen this title recently (hardback, dustjacket and signed) on other internet sources IRO the £80 mark – still expensive, but a bit more like it!

I agree and as that price as you say is “still expensive, but a bit more like it”, i’d likely be happy to pay that amount, i’d just have to find where.

i’d like to get a copy of these, but there is no way in the world, i’d pay anything like that for them. I’m happy to go without, rather than pay massively over inflated prices for anything.
There are others that will do the opposite.

Is it my imagination, or is that what looks like a fair sized bomb bay for the size of aircraft it is?
This is looking like a great achievement by all involved…very very nice!

There were also several ‘solid’ fibreglass models built by the studio that were non-flyers, and these were used in the take off sequence where a whole line of B-17’s fill the taxiway leading to the runway.

And very effective it looks too! The appearance of a long line of B-17’s just looks simply marvelous.

Any more news on a potential book?

    That’s a very good point.
I did hear recently that there there might be some activity on this front, but I’m not able to put any more meat on the bones!

I’m not comparing them to the EU or even the ASEAN but they’re united at least as far as this issue is concerned.

    An observation
On that basis, when MS Kirchner invited all her ‘united’ allies (by that I took it to mean neighbouring SA countries), to come commemorate/celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Falklands War, not a single representation from a single ‘united’ ally attended/turned up.
That’s how ‘united’ they must be!
I saw this as a bit of a slap in the face for the lady.
As I stated, this is only an observation.

Unfortunately for a number of reasons, I didn’t get the chance to see it.
    Will it be repeated again?

The Oxford english dickseanharry, defines expert thus; “X” is an unknown quantity, and a “spurt” is a drip under pressure……seems about right.

It could also mean ‘Ex’ as in the past tense. 😀

I wonder if ARCO or HFL will get a ‘Monk’ on for not being acknowledged as eggspurts as well. :dev2::dev2: (come on it is easter). 🙂

Before you start on the LM spin about better self diagnostics for its systems will improve servicability like modern cars, its also like a modern car in that some of those repairs are only doable at the main
dealership due to the design and accessability.

I am following this thread with much interest, but i’m sorry, your analogy does not work for me.
In the case of the modern car, the end user does not carry out any work on the car, they send it to the main dealer for repairs and servicing with equipped and trained staff and include diagnostics, they do not send it to the manufacturer.
In the case of the aircraft, the end user does in effect carry out it’s own servicing work and will be equipped for and trained in repairs where you quote “due to the design and accessability” either is or is not the issue. It may be a case that in very extreme circumstances, the manufacturer will send specialist ‘field personnel’ to either assist or carry out any repairs if the end user requests as such or is something which has been signed up for contractually.

No Typhoon looks ugly with those canards, Rafale looks good.

But permanantly fixed re-fuelling probes really add something special to the aesthetics of the Rafale don’t they?……..NOT!

Personally, I think the canards on both types look as good as each other and as bad.
At a glance, I see them as very similar looking aircraft and have to really look to see which is which.
I spose if I was a fanboy of either, i’d deny this?

Well they certainly used B-17’s, B-24’s, B-25’s and B-26’s to name a few as bombers, of which all were 24V.
I’d has it at a very good guess that certainly most, if not all of the american produced machines were all 24V.

Sorry to thread jack a little.

I have to say I am particularly interested in the claim “Indias new 300 ship navy that it is building”.
What breakdown of asset types will it likely consist of?
