    Ahh thanks for this.
So it looks like my memory got the helicopter accident element with John Crewdson correct!
Any advances on the other bits?

Columbia Studios turned to John Crewdson and his company, Film Aviation Services, to locate and operate the aircraft to be used in the film.

Quite a number of years ago, I had the opportunity to meet with his daughter, who I believed lived somewhere in Cambs and was named Emma.
I seem to remember that she said her father had been killed in a helicopter accident (possibly in a snowy mountainous area, but I cannot be sure it was quite some time ago).
I also got the impression that she either was born after he died or not long before?

Thanks mmitch, that’s early this year.

It was actually finalised yesterday, so to release it the next day is pretty good.

It is supposed to be impossible to sink a US carrier.

Nah!!! The Transformers (deceptacons) managed to smash one easy enough in their film. :D:D

Around the time of the Biggin Hill air show, and the weekend the first blenheim crashed at Denham. We were meant to get a three ship flypast but the B35 went technical

I think it was at Biggin Hill where another three ship did happen with RS712,
    Sally B and the Blenhiem.

    Great programme, loved it.
I concur with most of the comments previously mentioned, but was disappointed that Roger Mills did not actually get a mention either on the footage or in the cradits, although it was nice to see him in his usually jovial banter!

Sore losers..makes even the Americans look better.
    Fighter punch stuns Britain

Are we?, I don’t quite see that we have lost.
Reading the article in detail that you posted the link to, would suggest that BAE and therefore the UK, will get a slice of the action anyway!

“Britainโ€™s BAE has a 33 per cent stake in the four-nation consortium building the Eurofighter Typhoon.”

“One silver-lining is that EADS, the Eurofighter consortium, holds over 46 per cent stake in Rafale-maker Dassault Aviation. If Dassault does well, the consortium also gets to share the profit pie”.

So on this basis I really don’t see what why there is so much nonsense from all the contributors on here.
The way I see it is that BAE will get say 33% of whatever the Indian deal would be if the bought Tiffees or say 15% of the same overall costs if the bought Rafale.
If this is correct then it’s a winwin for the UK anyway, it’s just varying degrees of how much the win would be?
How come this has not been picked up and mentioned by anybody yet?
I Hope i’ve read this correctly? or it will be :o:o:o for me.

What is the real gain in keep slagging each other off and dragging up the past, particularly from what I keep reading from the Indian contributors. India is supposed to be progressing, moving forward, moving up, growing whatever is applicable for an upcoming nation, but to keep dragging on about what happend hundreds of years ago is sooooo last milennia and people ought to be a little more dignified in their approach.

The indians have selected at this stage, “only as prefferred bidder”, the Rafale which seems to satisfy what they want and is purported to be cheaper than the Tiffee.
I really don’t see what all the rubbish and mud-slinging is all about.

As I have said before, i’d much rather see a european company win the work as opposed to a US one.

    Cheers .

I don’t quite see the restrictive vision you are exaggerating with your diagram.
The tiffee canards are low down are quite forward and point away from the pilot.
This means that the pilot is likely to see the tips of the canards, but not much more. see http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=typhoon+fighter&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&biw=1024&bih=566&tbm=isch&tbnid=ERuDQNaRLFppkM:&imgrefurl=http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php%3Ft%3D114286&docid=aSkeebzrvzh1gM&imgurl=http://www.xairforces.net/images/news/large_news/230112_Oman_BAE_Typhoon.jpg&w=617&h=463&ei=mbUpT766KMXW8gPKh4GsAw&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=78&sig=118381964165113432824&page=12&tbnh=163&tbnw=206&start=128&ndsp=12&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:128&tx=821&ty=106
and it’s clear the restricted visibility is minimal and is probably equal to that offered by the Rafale to the pilot looking over his shoulder. see http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=rafale+fighter&start=297&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&biw=1024&bih=566&tbm=isch&tbnid=BOUFp7UAOVaMFM:&imgrefurl=http://wallpaper1080hd.com/desk/military_pictures/USA_AirForce/2010/1219/8877.html&docid=M2OuF-Bc3TqhEM&imgurl=http://wallpaper1080hd.com/photo/fan/rafale/2/rafale_5.jpg&w=1024&h=768&ei=bLspT9CABMzD8QPXouDVAw&zoom=1&chk=sbg&iact=hc&vpx=718&vpy=204&dur=1875&hovh=194&hovw=259&tx=166&ty=99&sig=118381964165113432824&page=18&tbnh=127&tbnw=203&ndsp=16&ved=1t:429,r:3,s:297
To try to suggest that the tiffee has something akin to a full wing, as you have done in your example, is nonsense and so I think your point is moot and contributes nothing.

Now I have to confess that i’m not a jet fan anyway, so to me when you look at your image again and see how blooming similar they are to one another is why I really don’t see what all this fanboy Typhoon vs fanboy Rafale sillyness really is all about. To me their similar profile and size would make me think that they must be fairly similar in their flying characteristics as well.
The software side of things I will not try and guess at.
I’m reasonably happy that it’s likely the Indians will choose a european fighter as opposed to a US one and to a lesser extent a Russian one although I woud obviously like to see the UK economy benefit in someway from whoever gets the deal which I keep reading is not actually yet a signed and therefore done deal.
I just hope that there is no kind of ‘european infighting’ that would somehow let ‘another supplier’ in through the back door.

Apologies, but please excuse a slight temporary thread jack here.

Clearly, there appear to be a number of ex St Eval service personnel who have very recently found themselves on this forum and viewing a very intriguing subject.

Are you fellows aware of an association for all ex St Evalians?

If you are not and would be interested to know a bit more, please PM me and i’ll pass on the info. I’m sure the association would love to hear from you.

If you are already in the association then PM me anyway to see if we already know each other?

The thread itself is very interesting and I know we would all like to hear more, particularly those with what seems to be some vivid first hand account knowledge.

A couple or so years ago, I was given the opportunity to sit in a FAF Rafale and was quite surprised to see that pretty well everything in the cockpit was labelled in english. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
This I really did not expect to see in a FAF aircraft, but the pilot informed me that they were really hoping that the aircraft would generate some export orders and that labelling all the Rafale cockpits this way seemed to be logical step to help this process.

I have to say I am amazed at some of the posts in this thread particularly in the ‘sticks and stones’ tittle tattle that some posters are using.
Some of them really need to get a life because they clearly don’t have one.
I for one would like to see all the euro canards do well and in a joint effort stop the reliance on US made aircraft because the more US they sell, the more they can ‘dictate’ whilst everyone elses in-house manufacture, supply and maintenance diminishes.
There’s nothing like a bit of indiginous manufacture and support in my book.

Blimey ! 27 million for the opening ceremony ? Is that all ? Cheap as chips! Bit of an improvement on the 81 GBP quoted. John Green

Blimey, I wish i’d milked it more than I did having spent a year and a half managing on one of the new build sporting venues. :diablo:
    I’m disappointed in myself!!

The RAF were out in force:

    0062:G-BYYB

Blimey, the RAF are parading the fact that they have VD!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

    I’ll get my hat.

Meanwhile three of them have their rudders neatly lined up straight, whilst one decides not to bother……poor show! Guard duties for the pilot!
