Actually the head of the ACA design team said it as did BAE on one of those UK forces videos, QE will be finished as designed and passed to the RN in 2016.
Like you i found this surprising too as the official line is still 2012 on official decision but i suspect its a case of being too late to modify the sections during manufacture for QE and will be done with PoW.
The unofficial stance does appear to indicate both will eventually get converted but it looks like it could well be at first refit. I suspect they are probably pricing up both sets of Cats & Traps and will use a deal excuse to help justify converting both during next year especially with it being a Jubilee year
I wonder if BAE are just playing a very clever contractual game in order to either bump up the money, or just play along the game of the government line even knowing that this is likely to change or both!!
Two things to say:
1 – There have been reports coming in that the Red Arrows (indeed, the entire RAF Hawk T1 fleet) has been grounded until further notice.
That was what I understood yesterday (sunday) lunchtime as they wheeled out and parked up 9 red and 1 black hawk t1’s together on the ramp with 2 other black t1’s also parked up nearby on the ramp.
I was given an indictaion that they would hopefully all be able to fly out on tuesday (tomorrow) pending unspecified investigations, but obviously the desire for tuesday is not fixed.
There was for a time an embargo on a particular fuel suppliers fuel, which I also understood alledgedly gave a commercial oppotunistic moment to ask for a considerably higher price of fuel from another ‘competitive’ supplier, but this was almost certainly lifted by yesterday morning.
I’d try here http://www.processc22.co.uk/
Hope this helps
Thanks for this.
I will pass on and pester. :diablo:
but have been looking for a place will do them
Please pass on the contact details if you find yourself a specialist?
There appears to be some good comments and info here.
Does anybody know of a good outfit that may be able to do these kind of photos, that I could perhaps pass on.
I’d like to try and get the owner to get the film developed if I can prompt the issue with some good helpful information.
I really want to see what, if anything, is on it.
Possibly because the other thread revolved around a not particularly amusing internet phoney regarding Pearl Harbor shots surviving in a Box Brownie, which was a repitition of a previous thread anyway.
Pagen, I understood perhaps why it was done, it was merely the speed at which it was done when a comment in the legends collision thread intimated to the forum that the mods really don’t like closing threads unless they get to a point where they are really let with no other option.
I did not see that the thread in question fell anywhere near what I could perceive was anything like that kind of scenario?
It has left me confused.
Hopefully you will have something unique and genuine to share with us all later.:)
I’m sure the owner who has said he will get it developed will have something worthwhile.
It did also make me wonder if an exposed, but undeveloped film would suffer any heat effects even though there is I am told, no physical indication that heat has touched it.
Does it have to go through some special process?
Except that’s a valve cover & not a rocker.
Well I never…..is it really?
Thank you you for clearing this up for me.
The question is have I actually learnt something today, (other than that pedants :dev2: can’t help themselves), and leave it there, or do I respond to a pedants posting.
Well hold on, wait a minute, I’ve now done some further research and have determined that it’s actually more coloquially known and referred to as a rocker cover and not a valve cover.
Taking it pedantically further, upon opening my Wight Cyclone 1820 & 2600 and P&W 2800 & 4360 engine overhaul manuals, all actually call them rocker box covers………….not valve covers.;)
So now I know what the manufacturers call them, i’ll stick with that thanks rather than the say so of…………….someone else :diablo:
I hope that was pedantically responsive enough for you???
Thanks for those answers ! metal link ? that’s what joins the shells together in a machine gun supply chain ! ??
A few more of the artifacts dredged up from the Norfolk soil ……
Actualy the first part, possibly from the exhaust / supercharger area, has been used by my friend the farmer for many many years as part of the downpipe system on one of his buildings ?????Part 3a
Part 3b
This piece of cyclone 1820 exhaust looks like it is from the lower right hand side of the No1, 2 or No.4 engine or from a No.2 position it could be further round towards the bottom area.
Small alloy casting / cover with ‘T’ section protrusion ??
Part 5b
The wright 1820 rocker is an inlet rocker.
Well what else would you do with engines for an aircraft thats never going to fly again? Herbie
I spose conserving useless damaged equipment that is representative of, but not forming part of the original fit, can be just as important to some?
Somehow I don’t see the addition of a bit of paint to them in a fully assembled state as they are as what could be called conserving them? A bit of paint to ‘tart them up’ yes, but conservation………no!
You only have to see what has been done to the museums Pegasus engines to see the difference between conservation and ‘tarting up’!
Love the idea of retoring it to fly again….woo-hoo!
When they gonna start :diablo:
Duxford Monday August 8th:
Another round engine, one of four being conserved for ‘Mary Alice’:
Interesting concept…conserving 4 totally shot engines.;)
Bomberboy
I have loads of photos but as you have probably noticed, there are not many on the web taken during the filming, not a good thing to do, until the film is released anyway.
Maybe i will risk just 2
Oooh you are a naughty tease for everyone!!!!!!

Secondly I’m looking for working (firing) examples of the .303 machine guns fitted orginally in these turrets or the later .50 calibre guns
Don’t want much does he?
I suggest he talk to a proper armourers such as Bapty & Co.
Trouble is they’ll want paying for the trouble..:dev2::dev2:

while Cliff Spink gave a lovely display in the HAC Tr9 two seater.
and then arrived in the overhead at Duxford with the port leg somewhat ‘ajar’.
Fortunately Cliff landed it quite safely.
