Russian Ural crude is actually tied to brent crude oil, so actually it is higher. Canada heavy is actually tied to WTI.
As well, the break even price now is $50bbl due to adjustments to the budget from late last year to early this year. The $80BBL are the old figures when Russia was spending like drunken sailors. That said, oil companies in Russia have already turned a profit this year, besides getting rid of their debt (well, not 100% rid of the debt, but you know, 28% or so for Gazprom). While oil and gas are huge part of the budget, the budget is in roubles. With the rouble dropping with the oil means that it keeps in par how many roubles Russian government is obtaining from the oil sales. Still less by 5 or so million per 1,000,000 barrels sold. PAK FA, since it is more reliant on domestic production, being at least 95% or greater use of Russian components, then you can take the concept of FOREX and throw it out of the window. Inflation is what will matter and 16% increase (Which is not 16% for every item in Russia, but fluctuated between various % inflation differences for each and individual items, with various other items even left out from the calculations). PAK FA’s funding has been more or less been there and in place for years. But it is the time and effort being put in for the development of the technologies.
Why they are pushing for FGFA contract is that it is a huge contract. In the tens of billions (after FGFA is designed and ready for sale). Why is this important? It helps Russia levy the cost in developing an export variant of PAK FA (FGFA) as well as obtain billions anyway. Why wouldn’t one want to chase someone to purchase it? US does it with the F-35. But while PAK FA’s funding has already been in place, the FGFA isn’t, and thus it does indeed need India’s injection into it. The rest are simply profit for Sukhoi.
There is no doubt that due to changes in the economy as well as re-orientation of the russian economy as a whole, there will be adjustments. No cutback I would assume as it would be dangerous to do so. But extensions of projects, with possibly other projects just in “thought” will be shelved for now. PAK FA itself is a long term investment. And added to that, PAK FA would actually make things much cheaper in the future for maintenance if it can effectively replace a lot of other aircrafts (MiG-29’s and Su-27’s /variants). Hence why US wanted to do same for F-35.
Anyway, chances of anything getting gutted will be the navy. Russia will probably just resort to 1 Corvette and 1 Frigate design and keep it at that for now and have a destroyer years into the future. Airforce on the other hand seems to be in far better shape in terms of industry and has more clear cut path as to what is wanted, besides the debacle regarding the bombers (I really don’t think they will actually restart Tu-160 program and simply restart production of various parts for them, and such parts could be used on new PAK DA, which I imagine will be pushed back a bit farther).
Thanks for the info mate. Appreciate it.
Around half of oil, which Russia export now are oil products, not crude oil, so they earn more money as before, when they export only crude oil.
Hm, from what Austin posted about MiG:
http://ria.ru/defense_safety/20150821/1199261015.html
32 planes this year is solid for a supposedly dead firm.
But I am curious where this number is coming from.
We have 8 MiG-29SMT for the RuAF. 8 MiG-29K for India. 10 MiG-29Ks to finish the contract for the Russian Navy. That is 26 birds. Who are the last 6 for?
Hopefully some clarity with Egypt comes out of MAKS.
Maybe Iraq?
Why would Su-35 group need Su-24 for ECM? Every Su-35 have two SAP-518 ECM pods plus internal ECM and 1 in group could carry SAP-14 group protecting ECM pod. Su-35 have full sensor fusion and data link network to work in groups and with command posts. Su-35 is equipped with modern ELINT and MAWS equipment, so they will be quite well aware of F-35 on large distance and triangulate them. They could well jam those Meteors and AMRAAM and at the end it have 3D TVC and could outmaneuver those missiles as they could not follow Su-35 maneuvers. Anyway, F-35 will most probably meet Su-35 in dogfight, where it doesn’t have a chance to escape.

Good- the Thales HUD on the Su-30SM will be replaced by the IKSh-1M, domestic HUD like in use on the Su-35S.
The first modified AF birds will be received this fall, though Naval Aviation will still have Thales HUDs in the next several units.Full defensive suit next please….
New order could bring new equipment.
What makes you think it has to be a sabotage?
The third plane in the same month with multiple engine failure. This is not an accident, this is sabotage. Russian rafineries produce all fuels in high Euro standards and they also export them to EU, so someone have to put something in fuel, that so many failures happened in so short period.
Defense Ministry commission to establish An-12 incident causes
There is no doubt now, that RuAF have a problem with fuel sabotages. I hope FSB will find those saboters, that they will pay for the loss of lives of the pilots.
This is going to complicate things for “Russian Helicopters” and Klimov. They still need to buy lots of engines from M-S (under multi year contract signed a few years back), and this is going to add an extra needless step in getting all the components to M-S for final assembly and testing.
As ODK says, they still intend to keep importing until 2017.
M-S produces engines to this day so they likely have a stock of blades/are sourcing them from elsewhere.
I don’t think Klimov receive any engine from Motor Sich like before Maidan. I think Kiev is not allowing it, like FCS for Khrizantema ATGM, which is now replaced by FCS from Belarus and production of Khrizantemas was stopped for some time. I think Klimov produce all those engines for Russian helicopters, they only have to import turbines from Novorussia, the rest they produce themselves.
I more think, this could be a case of sabotage. Fuel is standard and of good quality as Russia modernize their rafineries.
http://lenta.ru/news/2015/07/15/blades/
This explain quite well about helicopter engines. Klimov have to import turbine blades, because they don’t have enough capabilities to produce them, but soon domestic production of them will be in Saturn and Salyut plants. Up to now Klimov import those blades, but not from Ukraine, but from Novorussia, because production of turbine blades for Motor Sich is in SMZ in Snezhnoe town in DNR, Novorussia. I don’t think Ukrainian Motor Sich produce any engine as I doubt Novorussia sell those turbine blades to Ukraine.
Too many accidents in quite short period. I think FSB should check all this situation as there could be organized sabotages, after all, Russia is in cold war with NATO and Ukraine.
I think Greece will canibalize them, that at least part of the fleet will keep flying.
The middle photo is of Iraqi Mi-28N in action. So Mi-28N is finally getting some real war experiences.
I always wonder, why Iraqi Mi-35 carry a complete of Ataka ATGMs only on one wing and not on both.
why you are imagining Su-35? when MIG-29K is now primary fighter for both RuaN and Indian navy. MIG platform will get all the latest and longest range weopons. infact the version of S-300 selling to Iran is closer in range to S-400 so they can control Irak airspace.
so it is assumed that any new built MIG-29 exported will get longest range weopons.
Long range RVV-BD will be most probably used only with MiG-31BM, Su-35 and PAK-FA, as they have L-band radar components inside.
Haven´t the russians heard about smart weapons?
Su-34 shouldn´t be using rockets.
Aviadarts is a competition of pilots and their skills, not of capabilities of planes. Pilots have to spot targets by their eyes and not by radars and optics and have to use unguided armament to hit the targets and at the same time have to keep flying in formation and to do maneuvers to avoid air defense, etc. This is to provide the same conditions for pilots flying in old Su-24 or in new Su-34 or in old Su-27 or in new Su-35.
Lol.. u mean KnAAZ 🙂
KnAAZ is repairing T-50-5, but Su-34 could be repaired in NAPO.
