China is a nuclear super power and even US will not dare to touch Chinese islands. They will bark, but that is all.

Just ignore him, that post was ridiculous (speed, range, deployebility? We just listing of every characteristic and assuming Mi-28 is the best at it?), however, what issues has the IAF had with Su-30 munitions?

I know they had some R-77 problems, but then again they got most of those from Ukraine, not Russia.

It’s interesting, that only India have problems, while other don’t have. I think this have also to do with mixing of Russian, French, Israeli and Indian electronics and components and this mix never work as good as original does. In the same way India will spoil their Rafales with replacing French components with Israeli ones and I doubt this mix will work as good as original French Rafale does. And than Indians will complain how bad Rafales are.

India to pay $8.8 bn for Rafale fighter jets: reports

Not long ago it was 8 billion $ for 36 Rafales, now 8,8 billion $. If they negotiate a little more, India will pay 10 billion $ for 36 Rafales. This is more than 240 million $ per jet, so I wonder if they will be made from gold and diamonds. I wonder what capabilities will Rafale bring over Su-30MKI, that it is worth to pay 200 million $ more per jet. I think this difference in price will pay all maintenances, services, fuel and armament for Su-30MKI in its service life, while with Rafale they only get a plane.

Question for anyone who may have ran across this – any word on what the VKS (or VMF I guess) thinks of the Su-30SM’s flight performance?
I am mostly interested in the canards + TVC, as compared to all the other iterations they operate (Vanilla, UB, Su-35, etc).

As far as I know, they are quite pleased with Su-30SM as it prove to be very reliable jet. We do not know, how much more powerful are Su-30SM engines comparing to export Su-30MKI as well as for radar. It is known, that export Bars-M radar have limited peak power on 5 kW although transmitter could work with 7 kW peak power, but we could assume, that domestic Bars-R radar work with 7 kW peak power and with that also higher working power, what mean longer detecting ranges. Bars-M radar detect targets at 350 km, so most probably Bars-R detect them at 400 km, if it work with 40% more power. No doubt, that it have improvements comparing to export Su-30MKI/MKM and is more capable. I read, that there is a difference in TVC. In export Su-30MKI/MKM nozzles are deflecting for +/- 15° while in domestic Su-30SM they deflected for 20°.

Top U.S. official: U.S. would block sale of Russian Su-30 aircraft to Iran

How? they could place veto in UN and this is all they can do. They could not block neither Iran neither Russia in this case.

RuAF Mi-28N targeting truck with ATGM.

Mi-28N engaging more ISIS trucks, Range is the big number in the center.

I think the first video is the following of the second video. I don’t know, why operator didn’t use auto tracker as helicopter fly quite fast at 270 km/h and at range of 5 km, where missile fly quite some time to the target and it is more difficult to track target manually, what is seen in the second truck in the second video, where operator dance with the cross around the target and with that miss it.

Yeah we already saw that layout in flight:

So those RWR pods, MAWS and DIRCM complexes are now standard equipment on Mi-35?

Wasn’t around 10.000 ISIL terrorists only around Palmyra? And considering thousands of them also around Deir Erzor, that would mean around 3/4 of ISIL only around those two towns. This practically mean that defeat of ISIL in Palmyra will crash ISIL military might as they will lost half of their forces and they also lost thousands of terrorists in their failed offensives in Deir Erzor. This is good as after Palmyra defeat liberation of Syria and Iraq will go quite quickly as majority of terrorists will be already dead. But I think ISIL have far more than 25000 terrorists to defend all those battlefields and fight heavily in Palmyra and Deir Erzor and in Iraq as well.

That’s not Phaz Arbelet but Almaz’s N-025 radar. N-025E(Export) however is only Ka (millimeter) and lacks the X (centimeter) band and weather and air-air modes.

The N-025 for domestic service is still a no show as far as I know.

Ka-52 radar have more T/R modules attached on antenna comparing to N-025 for Mi-28N, so it could work in different bands and have better capabilities.

What surprises me is the use of up to 3 different combat helicopters (Mi-24/28 and Ka-52). Mi-28N has already been used in combat by Iraq, thus no need to get that badge.

They will most probably test networking between Mi-28N and Ka-52.

Is this because the Su-33 has been deemed to not be capable (or suitable) for carrier operations anymore?

I think they will replace Su-33 with MiGs on the carrier simply, because MiGs are new multirole fighters and they are smaller, what mean larger number of fighters on the carrier or larger number of helicopters if they keep the same number of fighters. Also Northern fleet is responsible for Arctic region.

I suspect that there may be a lack of carrier-qualified pilots to fly them, rather than a problem with the airframes.

When was the Kuznetsov’s last cruise ??

Are the Russians using the NITKA carrier complex in the Crimea to train new pilots for the Su-33 and MiG-29K/KUB??

    Ken

As I know, MiG-29K/KUB are in Yeysk naval training center and they train a new regiment of pilots there.

There will be no new Su-33 fighters. Last year Russian MoD talk about new duty for Su-33, that they will serve as ground based fighters to protect Arctic region. Maybe a small group could be still on the carrier together with MiG-29K/KUB. More interesting question is, why they will go through new overhaul if they recently come from overhaul in KNAAZ, where they also went through minor modernization. Most probably for additional modernization as Su-33 is better suited for long over the sea patrols than usual ground based fighters as it have better corrosion protection for carrier operations and navigation equipment dedicated for over the sea operations.

    Who needs it? Repair enough.
    There is a new multi-purpose aircraft, 24 MiG-29K / KUB

MiG-29K/KUB will be on the carrier, Su-33 will be ground based fighter to protect Kola peninsula and Arctic region. It will have sense to modernize them with N001VEP radar to give them anti-ship capabilities, which MiG-31BM doesn’t have. They both will protect the gate between Murmansk and Franz Joseph islands.
