You managed to draw that conclusion from a Su-27SM simulator picture? Damn.

It is not a conclusion, it is a question. There were rumors, that in next years Su-33 fighters will go through repairs in aviation repair plant although not long ago they went through general overhaul in KNAAZ and that they will go through modernization to serve as ground based fighters to protect Kola peninsula. If they will be actually modernized, than they could use Su-27SM simulators as well. I don’t see why else would they overhaul Su-33 so quickly after they were overhauled by KNAAZ if they will not modernize them.

Yes… Over a virtual version of Severomorsk. πŸ™‚

Maybe Su-33 will be modernized to Su-27SM level?

Did a double take when I saw that headline- but really it should say Middle East.

Why? Egypt is in Africa, not in Asia.

In 1978 the US Inteligence had been watched in real time througt imaging from spy satellite for the first time a test in which the MiG 31 equipped with the radar N007 PESA was capable to hit four targets simultaneously with air-air missiles R 33.

It were revealed in 2008 that Su 35S has been equipped with the most advanced version from PESA radar like N035 Irbis -E could be able to hit two targets simultaneously with SARH ( Semi Active Radar Homing) missiles like the R 27, or then eight targets with missiles ARH(Active Radar Homing) as R 77.

The MiG 31 with legacy missiles R 33 with SARH head seeker and the legacy N007 radar, it has been acquiring since 1978 twice more targets in relation to the much more advanced Su 35S ( with only SARH missiles)has been equipped with the most advanced PESA radar as Irbis E after 30 years from uninterrupted technological development in the hardware and software field.

This is just a detail, however it shows at least that there may be some inaccuracies in the disclosure in this aspect about the capabilities of the Su 35S, about the R 33 with only SARH head seeker or then in both .

I guess the doubts are not just about the new version of R 77-1, once there are a long tradition of maintaining doubts about the ARH like the R 27EA, R 37 and R 77 from Soviet Union until now in Russia with the R 77-1, R 37M and others.

The problem is always in details. MiG-31 Zaslon radar have L-band elements inside exactly for missile guidance, what means radar track targets in X-band, while missiles were guided by L-band elements. R-27 missiles work in X-band and radar have to do all work in X-band, this is what make limitation for Irbis using R-27 to only two missiles simultaneously. But Su-35 also have L-band AESA complex. If Su-35 use R-33 missiles, than maybe it could as well guide 8 R-33 missiles to targets simultaneously as L-band AESA will guide missiles, while Irbis radar will track targets.

Big day- 24 hours, 71 sorties.

Hmm, pretty good accuracy for dumb bombs dropped from level Su-25 flight.

Looks like Su-34 or Su-24M2 give targets to Su-25 and record hits of bombs. Data link network really work well.

This what if idea have one big question missed. If Imperial Russia and later USSR were colonial powers with oversea territories, than you could bet Argentina itself would maybe be one of Russian, Soviet territories and in that case Imperial Russia as well as USSR would have far different navy, than what they actually have to protect their domestic seas and different type of air force too. Navy would have far more big ocean going ships like cruisers and destroyers as well as real aircraft carriers with more serious fighter jets there than Yak-38. Their air force will be also different and made with long range and air refueling capabilities instead of short range base protection fighters.

Even today Russia doesn’t have global aspirations and is equipping its navy and army to protect their mainland and territorial seas. Russia have everything at home and is not depending on imports. On the other side China is dependent on imports and that is why China creates global naval force.

    Hezbollah in Iraq?

Most probably Iraqi Shiite militias. I think they have similar yellow flags, who knows if they are also called Hezbollah. I think Iraqi Shiite militias, which fight in Syria together with Syrian army are under banner of Hezbollah, so could be, that they use the same name and flags to make it more simple for Shiites.

Hmm how long you think Russia would be able to sustain this campaign ?

is 1 year too optimistic ?

Quite long. Syria asked for Russian military intervention, so you could bet someone else is paying Russians there. Most probably Iran and China are paying for intervention. China is also endangered by those terrorists. Maybe they will not send the army, but they will send the money.

Well unless there’s women or children (although ISIS have been training 5 year-olds) you can’t really tell. Depends on how far away their weapon gets blown.

I wonder what civilians could be inside a terrorist base? CIA agents? Terrorists dressed in woman clothes trying to escape?

What did they shoot it down with? A knife?

I don’t know, what drone this is, but it is to small for Orlan-10 drone and there is a good question if this small drone have enough range to fly from Russian base to Turkey. It could be Syrian army drone or terrorist drone. This could as well be an Ukrainian drone, which crash in Ukraine, but is shown as Russian drone. Considering how much Ukrainian side lie and tell fairy tells, everything is possible.

Interesting news, that Iraq receive Su-30 fighters from Russia and they already made three strikes against ISIS in Salah al Din province. I wonder which Su-30 they are. Maybe they are those 6 ex-Indian Su-30K, which Angola didn’t buy as I doubt Russia deliver any new Su-30 from their own air force. Maybe they are new Su-30MK2 from KnAAZ as Irkut is busy with other orders. Who knows. It would be fine to get some pictures of Iraqi air force Su-30 fighters to see which model they have.

Without the APU – on this development machine – there is what looks like a rear-facing radar…….

    http://www.flankers-site.co.uk/model_su-34_files/Real%20002.JPG

The new APU has a square intake on the port side (under the red cover) – with the exhaust vent/grille on top further back (under the white cover)

    http://www.flankers-site.co.uk/model_su-34_files/Real%20012.JPG

This doesn’t leave much room for a Radar – although there is a white cover at the extreme rear……..

    Ken

Most probably this back looking radar is smaller radar type MAWS complex. Maybe there is only antenna, electronics could be in front. I’m sure Su-30SM have something similar. If you look closer to white radoms in Su-30SM tail sting, you could see it host two antennas inside and I think at least one of them is radar type MAWS there.
