If a respar is indeed required I would say £2 million would be realistic. Whether a spar exists or needs to be manufactured I’m not sure of.
As much as I would like to see her flying again, as seen with other projects raising that kind of money is nigh on impossible! And I’m certain if someone had that to give, it would more likely go to the Mosquito, Typhoon or Sea Vixen, types that have a recognized air show demand as warbirds. It’s a nice thought, but as a realist I’d not bet a penny on APSA flying anywhere!
Interesting thread this, I’ve always loved the DC6. A couple of years ago (it might be longer, time flies), I was chatting to a chap who had something to do with the company/owner in the Cayman islands. He was explaining how they needed to raise £4 million, as it needs a respar due to the spar being drilled as a start of converting it into a bar, similar to the diner idea with SIXC.
Well this thread is finally making pleasing reading at last! Congratulations on sorting your PR issues out, Phil_W you seem to be doing a much better job than your brother, who seemed rather snappy to say the least. Hopefully the project will settle down now. Just a thing, the NDT kickstarter you did, obviously you have raised the funds, am I right to presume they are still safe and the NDT is to go ahead?
Again, well done on sorting out the mess!
Paul Ward.
Ok, so I’ve been following the Facebook page for a couple of weeks, and, well, what on earth is going on? The posts get commented on, questions get asked, people air concerns, it then seems there are various people responding under the Shackleton name, all contradicting each other! Overdue accounts are mentioned, someone says you haven’t got them, someone who seems to be an ex volunteer says they left them for you, and offers to forward them, she’s thanked by one person then someone else says they aren’t relevant! Yesterday you post that the RAC guy who kindly helped out is under investigation due to a complaint, and that serious talks are being held about the future of the aircraft, giving the impression it’s all but over, them someone comments saying they saw the guy ring the job in and all was ok! Then DW, I presume Dave Woods says all is ok, all within hours, and please feel free to make a donation! What the hell? Why would anyone donate to something that a few hours earlier was going down the pan! Then, as if by magic a vehicle show/air show is advertised this morning, only to dissapear this afternoon! Who in their right mind is gonna support this? Reading back It’s cursed, and to me has scam written all over it! Just where has all the money gone? I’ve had my doubts for a while, but the way you carry on is downright comical! As someone said last night, stop messing about and put her in a museum. Cash Cow? It’s written all over it! You no longer have my support! What a mess!
This is fantastic news, a Mosquito with operational engines! I really can’t think of a better home for her than Lincs Aviation, a fantastic museum run by very friendly staff. Imagine seeing HJ711 chasing Just Jane around the taxy area, if this could be possible, what a spectacle!
Yes I would indeed like to do that, Rich if you could try and keep us informed I would like to meet you, your knowledge seems very extensive! The usual issue of trying to match days of availability up is as always difficult but I am sure our path’s will cross!
To see her flying will be something else, and I sincerely hope this can be achieved soon!
She looks absolutely stunning! Well done to everyone involved, I look forward to seeing her back in the sky very soon!
Ok, thanks Rich for the information, if you could let me know if anyone is there, I’ll try and get across, can’t do next week unfortunately. And thanks for quashing the rumour, it’s amazing the things you hear!
Many thanks!
Thank you MaHone, that’s most helpful, interesting reading there, it says they are open tomorrow so I’ll see if I can pop by, I have made other plans but I may be able to get there, hopefully the team can reassure me as to the projects position, some very speculative information put there!
Once again, thanks your help!
Ok thanks for the heads up, I’m not on Facebook, but I’ll have a look if I can work it out. Seems a little unfair on Rich if he’s the only one doing public relations! I see looking back he left the project previously, understandable if he’s the only one in the public eye, surely there are other team members that could take on the task. Unfortunately there seems to be many rumours of various origins floating around and I feel this lack of updates doesn’t help matters, I even heard they had no fuel to run last weekend! Anyway, again, thanks for the heads up.
Reading back through this thread, I am beginning to get a very uneasy feeling about this project. Once again its gone very quiet with a lack of updates, surely it can’t just be down to Rich to monitor and update/respond on here? Keeping things public is very important, and there seems to be, once again, a distinct lack of that. I appears that if I hadn’t asked questions there would be even less activity of late. When reading back through I can’t help but notice a flurry of activity, posts, supportive comments and the like, possibly one of the most commented threads on here! but now the trail seems very cold. Have people started to turn their backs on this once great project? I certainly am beginning to get that feeling. I was hoping someone would reply to my question, but I am not simply hanging on, so will now make alternate plans, I am not driving 80 odd miles on the off chance.
If this project is to succeed may I strongly suggest a better public presence, otherwise I fear the worst for this beautiful Aircraft!
Is anyone at the Aircraft this weekend?
Ok, never mind.
I’m hopefully heading to Wellesbourne this Saturday, is anyone on site? I should be able to pop up for a tour if possible?
