IAF has been buying israeli sub-systems for its various ACs for some time now. If there are some exotic & fabulous stuffs are available in sufa, then cost permitting & israel’s willingness, all those should be available for other candidates too. As Mig Corp already said, they are willing to configure acc to its customer’s needs. IAF can have all the fantastic israeli equipments in Mig 35s too.

He said that for the first time the factor of “life cycle cost or ownership cost” was being taken into account while acquiring a fighter.

“How to calculate the ownership cost was the problem and that’s why it has taken more time in taking a decision,” Tyagi said and added that the tender would be invited “very soon”.

On long term cost basis, M2k-5 could have come on top. but its no longer in the race.

Prez Kalam likely to fly in Su-30
    Tuesday, May 23, 2006

NEW DELHI: President APJ Kalam is likely to fly in a Su-30 combat jet of the Indian Air Force (IAF) next month, a defence source said on Tuesday.

The flight is expected take place June 8 when the IAF’s Pune-based 20 Squadron celebrates its 50th anniversary.

“The president has expressed a desire to fly in a Su-30. The modalities are being worked out,” the source said.

Kalam had created history last month when he became the first Indian president to undertake a voyage in a submarine.

Our President is truly going places :D.

According to Singha on BR, the radar is EL/M-2032. Looks like MMR is dead. Maybe upgrade to 2052 later when it is available.

When will the MMR be then ready? Dont think for 20 odd contract. What are the final specs for MMR & how can it be compared to 2032 or bison radar?

And is ELTA 2052 AESA still considered for IAF?

After ADS, i think IN should get a catapult launch sys based carrier. Also why is ADS tonnage restricted to 37500 tons?

If LM brings JSF to the table, then surely IAF would be drooling over the offer. Anything less wont satisfy. Reading reports on Cope India, IAF pilots arent much impressed by f16s.

the E10 joint E3+JSTARS project has been cancelled iirc and studies are ongoing to see what will take place of E3 and E8. perhaps a scaled up MESA mounted on 777-200LR :diablo:

iirc they were trying to get APG79 export approved by some pentagon committee last december. dunno what happened after that. the MRCA rfp will flush the issue’s status out.

Thanks. But aegis info is sketchy. I dont think IN can afford 1+Billion USD per destroyer. Where as russian are available for about 250M USD, though not as potent. But our enviournment doesnt really warrant such warships.

My own Eyes…that’s the thing with many chinese systems, as they tend to keep so quiet, you have to only trust your own judgement in the face of the evidence and the evidence and pics that we have seen from Varyag speaks very strongly that the lass is going to be put on service…

Do post a few pics, so ppl here can look at those refurbished/ing Varyag.

Mig25 is retiring and Singapore is going GHawk for AEW. I would appreciate america unkil giving us natives a few GHawks for the hi-alt IMINT role. also some Ghawks or mission suite for the GMTI jstars mission.

force multipliers all, and vital to plug gaps and effectively use resources.

    I wish, i wish, i wish …….. :D.

america unkil is not averse to offering top-end technology like the PAC-3 (its advanced radar), F18E (aesa radar) and there were even suggestions of exporting Aegis to IN to “beef up its anti-piracy capabilities”

Where was that socalled offer for PAC III was made. Heard mostly of II never III. Also when has US offered Aegis?
